Thoughts on The New Timex Watch?

Inspired by the Arctic expeditions and seemingly the Rolex Polar Explorer, the new Timex x Huckberry collaboration while not the greatest inside (no hacking seconds and possibly no handwinding) is great looking that will look good on with anything aside from maybe a suit.

I don't think they're trying to offer this as an alternative for a Rolex Polar Explorer, but it does seem to be a good one for the price. What are the general thoughts on this watch and is the price point of $279 good enough to justify a buy? Would this watch make into your collection?

I like it a lot. I have a Navi XL and love it. The Miyota does hand wind but doesn't hack. It is fairly easy to sync it to the exact second using a couple different methods if that's your thing. For under 300 bucks I see it as a decent price while others will undoubtedly be in the "I'd never pay 279.00 for a Timex" school.

i like it, clean contrasty face and the red sweep second hand pops out. i would buy that

I think it looks good, and I have been meaning to add a Navi to my collection. I really like what Timex has been doing in the last few years with both their mechanical/automatic watches and their solar watches.

·

I love it, but I couldn't snag one before it sold out. I hope they do another run.

Maybe it's for the better the watch wasn't available when I checked it out. Would have been a close call otherwise

Looks great! Congrats!

One of the only ads I've ever clicked through on Instagram was the first time I saw this baby.  I think it's stunning!  Sure a white dial is the last thing you'd actually want in the arctic, but polar dials just take you there man.  It's uniquely Timex with the elements we already love from existing watches, and I'd wear one with pride.

It looks good. But I have yet to purchase Timex because of their quality issues, and initial reviews seem mixed in that regard. Also, I would keep in mind what $279 will buy you.

The competition at that price point is super tough. It's definitely more difficult to justify the purchase considering what Orient/Seiko give you for half the price. Personally for me the Timex would be in consideration as a cheaper alternative for something like a Rolex Polar Explorer. It might be an easier choice for me if it had a movement that had hacking, in a perfect world the bracelet wouldn't be half bad, but that's a dream more than anything.

Great watch! Two questions.. what miyota movement does it have and is there indiglo light?

No indiglo and the movement while they don't state it on their own website even, I assume it's a miyota 8215 which they have used in a few of their watches, including Navi XL watches (if not all of the Navi XL watches)

Yes, if you look at what an Orient Kamasu goes for on the grey market, a watch without any substantial flaw, then the price point for an automatic with what looks like an 8215, is not all that easy to justify. Maybe Timex has increased quality with the price? There is only one way to find out. Then again, the design is quite appealing.

·

For $120 less, would be tempting.

·

I love it, but I would probably wear it for a week and then it would end up sitting in my watch box.

·

Is it a Miyota 800 series movement? I looked a bit and could never find out. That would be better than a Chinese movement, I would guess.

Cool (borrowed) design, which is OK, but the ~$300 range is a competitive segment in the watch world.

·

Looks fantastic. The price is unjustified, though. Timex seem to be very comfortable with producing watches that are very good-looking but not worth the money they charge for them

·

It is nice but too much like the Rolex Explorer II.  I think that Timex is making a huge mistake by trying to mimic Rolex as they have appeared to do with this watch.  They have some great original designs and I think they should focus more on their own brand instead of trying to be something else.

·

hey, remember when seiko would make datejust homages?

·

Nice watch! Agree with Saswatch - looks like Rolex Explorer II. Very nice and clean design, very nice showcase back. It would be good to understand how is the bezel working and how shiny is the lume. Anyway ... Not in stock ...

·

I think we’ve gotta tip our hats to Timex. They are cranking out some beautiful watches over the past couple of years.

·

Damn it I shouldn't have looked but's still in stock on the Canadian Site. Fighting temptation to hit buy at the moment .....

Hang on I'm safe I just need to scroll down it's out of stock.

·

Oh yeah I would rock that!!🤘🏽🤘🏽

·

Timex are really on it right now. 2 years ago I wouldn’t even look at one, now I own 3 and I am always looking at their collections as a point of call.

This is such a nice, clean looking watch - why haven’t they emailed me about it yet? They better not sell out…

EDIT: it’s already sold out… f***

i prefer the modern automatics even if they have the noisy myota in them. i think someone at timex has an obsession with date windows. imho this piece would rock without one. i find the placement is often at odds with the dial design like it has to have one in a certain position but that was never factored into the design.

closest modern piece i have is a quartz nasa dial navi xl.
