Bang for your buck hands down is Seiko and 2nd place is Orient. The affordable Seiko movement like the 7s26 gets flack for not having hacking and its accuracy of -20/-49 sec per day, but the vast models that Seiko has made the past +25 years using that movement has made them the one company that people have gone towards to buying their first "real watch".

My first ever dive watch was the Casio Duro. I wore the hell out of it everywhere I went, it has dings, scratches, and I even tried doing a slight modification by fully brushing the case to a semi-matte finish and accidentally overbleaching the bezel to a complete ghost look. It doesn't get much wrist time but it's truly a mini-tank I can bring anywhere.
Casio for me is a brand that yes, I can consider as "beater watches" but with that connotation also comes with reliability. If I can have at least one thing that is reliable in this ever changing world, it would be a Casio.
Hopefully this helps. Also, just want to point out for somethings to consider: sometimes aftermarket dials come with extra feet (like the one above) so you can just adjust and clip off to whatever your style of case/movement is - whether the crown is at 3:00 or 4:00 and sometimes they're already set for that 3/4 position. So before making that purchase, just make sure the dial (and also the movement date) can align or you would have to invest in as well some dial dots.
I do because I try not to have my phone be the first thing I look at in the morning when I wake up and need to get ready for the day (or if I can go back to sleep for another 30 mins lol).
For showering, no - lately I've been wearing my watches on NATO or MN straps so the feeling of having a wet strap on your wrist for the rest of the day = not an enjoyable experience

My Lorier Falcon II I think fits the bill. It's casual enough that I don't have to worry about it being a large presence and also because I don't have to worry about babying it. I wear at times when I exercise. Whether its at the gym, for a swim, or for a run or hike - it's a low-profile watch. I wore it on my first flight for my private pilot's license training.
On the other hand, the waffle-dial, gilt/black combination, and domed acrylic crystal make it more so a watch that doesn't feel out of place it a dressier setting. I put it on an aftermarket rivet bracelet for that full vintage feel.
Hi everyone, my name's Caleb. What brought me here was actually Max's YouTube channel and like any hobby, was looking for a platform to connect with others!
Currently wearing my Lorier Falcon II Black/Gilt and its a watch I wear everywhere.
