Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch. What's your favorite version?
What more there is to say about the Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch? 😄 It's an iconic piece that everyone and their mother knows about. This piece is the version from 2001 and features caliber 1861. After 22 years of wearing it, it holds up pretty well. The case is in good condition, the hesalite crystal has a couple of deeper scratches but nothing to write home about. The one thing that aged the most is definitely the bracelet, it's the weakest point of the watch compared to the newer references. That's why we prefer wearing it on the leather straps (like this Two-Stitch Forest Green), which this watch is made for and if there is one watch to choose as the default for the term "strap monster", it should be the Speedmaster Moonwatch! 😄

How much hate would I get for saying the Moon(s)watch?? Personally, I love the bracelet it comes on, and never have would wanted to put a strap on that watch. But that green you have on is making me second guess!

The sapphire version moonwatch is my favourite version. The reduced is a reasonable choice but the dial proportion isnt as good as the original
It would be the 3861 for me because of the new bracelet, I love the tapered and they are so comfortable!
Speedy reduced is my favourite by far. It is perfectly sized for my wrist and shares the most design cues with the Pro.
I've tried wearing big 41-42 mm watches, MoonSwatch included and found myself enjoying a more reasonable 36-40mm watches way more. Smaller watches look a bit more refined and elegant for me.

Hesalite because it won't shatter and that is what went to the moon and the 1861 because that is still qualified by NASA for space without any doubt (you know, in case NASA calls/ but really because the 1861 was what was available when I bought it/ with the 3861 seemingly (in my mind) getting announced soon after I purchased mine/ at least I got the big box).
I never thought about a green strap but that one looks great with the Speedy. Now down the rabbit hole looking at @twostitchstraps who I wish I would have known about before my last big strap binge. I think it might be time for another binge.

I actually just had mine on a similar green leather strap but recently put it back on the bracelet.
My first Omega Speedmaster will be the new 321 “Ed White” I cannot wait to take delivery! I love the history behind the movement. It’s been found in watches way more expensive and the fact that Omega took the time to reconstruct this legendary caliber today shows that they regard the 321 as an equally historic movement.

Yes, that is correct. They have a special Atelier where they assemble their Tourbillions, for example. Every movement is assembled once, and then disassembled, cleaned and reassemble a second time. That’s one of the reasons why it cost twice as much as a regular Speedmaster Professional.

For my budget and lifestyle I went with the current hesalite and. look. I love this watch. It’s just super great.
But…gotta get one of those Gemini IVs one day though….while I’ve never done a spacewalk, I am a Gemini and I have twins so, like pretty much qualified, right

The original (more or less). The one I had in 1973 (ref 861, I think). Steel bracelet.
TBH my favorite version is the one that other people buys.
This one…O31130423001005. The last generation not the latest generation. They are just strap monsters too. I’ll switch the leather (black or tan or whatever moves me) to bracelet. Got to go with the classic black original look.
