Omega Speedmaster vs Rolex Daytona

Hey watch crunchers, wanted to get everyone's opinion on which chronograph I should potentially add to my collection. The look i'm going for is the sort of "vintagey" looking chronograph in yellow gold. My inspiration is ofcourse something like a Daytona JPS but obviously thats not an option haha. Lets ignore pricing for the 2 watches for now as if we take into account secondary, the Omega stands no chance. MSRP wise, they are fairly similar, the daytona at least in Japan is around 10% cheaper than the Omega. Resale value is not a major consideration for this decision. The Speedy is ofcourse a touch bigger at 42mm but it has a manual wound calibre which is something I do like, especially I am lookin for that sort of vintage insipired design. However the daytona now comes with the 4230 calibre and since I already have a panda daytona with 4130, I know how reliable this movement is. There is also the fact that its water resistant to 100m as well. What do y'all think?

Gotta be the Speedy, it's the ultimate icon

Daytona without a doubt!

Moonshine Omega by a mile! Not even a fair fight. As you said $$ is no factor before or after.

·

Omega by a smidge, but both are sweet! "Less filling! Tastes great! Less filling! Tastes great!" 😉

I love this Omega. It’s just so much more classy and refined than the Rolex.

I’m by no means anti-Rolex. I actually find myself defending them more often than not 🤦🏻‍♂️ But on this one it’s gotta be the Speedy.

Speedy all the way!!! 😎

For your requirements it's got to be the Speedmaster.

Bearing in mind I've relinquished my Speedy and may be picking up a Daytona you'd think I'd go the other way, but 1) the Omega has a vintage vibe which is totally lacking in the Daytona, 2) you already have a panda Daytona so you'd be doubling up, and 3) wouldn't it be nice to have a chrono without the ridiculous screwdown pushers? I mean, how often are you going to be timing your 100m butterfly?

The gold speedy looks classier imho

I think the black markers on the older Daytona make all the difference. I don't like this new one. The Speedmaster on the other hand is awesome.

Speedmaster.

Especially since you already have a Daytona.

I picked speedy but I'd personally go zenith.

The new Seiko chrono looks to be a more accurate choice and a little less last century

I like Rolex. I’d like to get a couple more. With that being said I’m not a fan of the Daytona. It’s small and I don’t the stripe look on the lugs or the crown guards.

The Speedy is the better looking watch to me. The strap ending at the case is a cleaner look than the Daytona. And the raised dial on the Speedmaster gives it some extra depth. The Daytona looks flat in comparison.

Hope that helps.

I think Daytona on Oysterflex is the best offering of that watch, however I’d choose the Omega for a few other reasons.

To you specifically, the Speedmaster is def the vintage vibe you are looking for, manual wind and traditional case sculpture. The dial also has depth and dimension historically present in vintage offerings. The Daytona is great, but it’s certainly the modern and shiny one here.

Can’t wait to learn which one you get.
