One spot... for a diver?

Hi. I've bought and sold a few watches in the last couple months, and am pretty happy with where the collection sits, but there seems to be a diver void. Currently: Hamilton Khaki Field Omega Moonswatch, Jupiter Vaer A5 Halios Universa Brew Retrograph G-shock Which affordable dive watch would you add? (and then I'm "done for a while")

The Baltic Aquascaphe in blue gilt is incredible 😱 I wish it was mine 😍

Your collection is about your choices, but of the three options there — the Baltic is the most elegant, the Lorier being more utilitarian but still elegant. As to something else — have you considered an Orient diver? A Kamasu in ’grey‘ would match well with your tastes based on these examples.

I have... I like it for sure and the value is hard to argue with, but not exactly my taste.

I had the Lorier SIV but sold it mainly because the disappointing lume of the hour hand during the night. But the bracelet is totally awesome. Now I got the chance to get the Squale Corso Italiano but before I found it in the second hand market was saving for the Baltic but the black and white version.

I hope to try the Baltic someday but seems to be a very nice complete package.

thanks for the reply... they're all great, but I've definitely been leaning toward the Baltic.

Good. Would love to know about your experience with it once you get it.

Those all look like great options. If you're open to an SRPD, what about an Orient Kamasu as an alternative Japanese diver?

Sapphire crystal!

On those three I would prioritize like:

  1. Baltic
  2. Seiko

Loriet is not my taste. I think they are little overhyped within the bloggers and vloggers. The Baltic has more character.

But in my opinion the best vallue for money divers are:

  1. Tissot Seastar. There are many color options.  In blue there is even a version with a silicium hair spring.

  1. Certina DS Action Diver

3. Certina DS PH200

Take a good hard look at Christopher Ward.  They have a few dial color and sizes size and GMT.

Seems like I need to take a closer look at CW... I keep hearing about them... and I have a feeling my next next watch will be a CW vs SPB143.

·

The Baltic of those three.

Something else? Maybe an Axios Flagship:

Precisely my problem with the current batch of Loriers. The hour hand looks disproportionate to the rest of the design and the diminutive lume plot on the hour hand hinders legibility at night with the (arguably) most important hand.

Exactly. I even kind of like the size of the hour hand, but the diminutive lume plot crossed a red line in my case. And the rest of the watch is great and was sad to have to sell it after only a couple of weeks. Well, that's part of the journey I guess.

Nothing wrong with the actual size of the hour hand, just the small lume plot that makes it feel almost like an afterthought. The reason I really like Loriers is that they use actual vintage design ideas instead of just vintage reference. The problem with that in this case however is that vintage watches were designed specifically to be useful and functional as they were the only tools for their jobs, not just a stylish alternative. The new hour hand makes it almost useless as a tool at night in compromised viewing conditions. The previous hand did not have this problem and while I prefer the shape of the new one better, it has lost functionality. Seems nitpicky but it's a deal breaker for me on watches I so desperately want to love.

I couldn't agree more. That was exactly my reasoning. Great to see I'm not the only one thinking exactly the same way.

Oh yeah, I stumbled across that video and I said the same thing. Love your render comparison with the 2 neptunes.

It's a huge difference for something so small.

And I even think the frame of the hour hand is more elegant, thin, and better balanced than the version IV. I tried to convince Lorenzo but in vain! ;)

Looks like most of the SKUs are out of stock, they're a microbrand after all. But the other colorways and strap options should come back eventually.

Thanks for this. I'll be watching closely.

In my humble opinion if neither was actually going to be worn to dive alot the bracelet would be the tie breaker. The neptune bracelet is fantastic. It has a familiar 3 link look that at a glance is classic but catches more light and is unique. The baltic bracelets don't do it for me.

Kamasu, Glycine 39 or Certina 38. All great watches.

Couldn't agree more. It's like you're reading my mind on this one. I do not have any correspondence with Lorenzo but if you do then please express to him that you are not alone in your criticisms. It's the only thing holding me back and I really hope it's addressed by the time they release a miyota powered Hyperion GMT. I need to be able to read it at a glance in a dark cockpit and while the 2 tone lume mixed with the long gmt hand are a perfect balance for legibility of the second time zone, on the current model the first timezone would get lost due to having to hunt for the hour hand. Not to mention a thinner frame and larger lume looks more refined and elegant.

·

Man. Close call with those great options. Also your collection seems great!
