Purpose of red dot on rotating bezel, Hanhart Pioneer 417 ES flyback

At the risk of sounding totally ignorant, I have no idea the intended purpose of the red dot and rotating bezel of this watch. I’ve tried looking it up to no avail. The bezel is friction fitted and rotates in both directions. I’m reasonably sure that the red dot is used to mark a reference point but don’t know how or why? Anyone know how to use it?

My guess is it's just a marker for the flyback of the chrono. I can't think of any reason they would have that on a rotating bezel though. My guess is they have a bunch of these cases in stock and had to use them somehow.

Though I could be completely wrong with what I just typed. 😜

Simple timer? Line the red line with the minute hand to see elapsed time or use it as a countdown marker?

·

I'd imagine it's a navigation aid

Too look pretty and attract other hanharts… more like for mating I think…

😂😆

I can see two uses, one would be to mark a start time. The other to mark an end time, so you want to fly west for 20 minutes put the red line twenty minutes from now and fly until you reach the mark. This would also allow the chronograph to continue tracking a larger time frame.

Yes!

That’s right!

It’s a chronograph, you need a timing marker, hence the red dot.

It’s a gorgeous piece. Just took delivery of one this week

You probably saw this in the review by A Blog To Watch...

"The coined-style bezel has a single red marker on it and can spin freely to be used as a simple count-up or countdown timer."

Wildly functional bezel. It can be used for either elapsed timing or countdown. Used mine today to keep track of refilling the pool.

Thank you. I did see that but didn’t exactly understand. After reading other comments, it makes sense that they would have this since the subdial only goes to 30 minutes of elapsed time. Very clever solution.

I hate to be the git who points out the obvious but the use is obvious, additionally covered by a number of reviews by content creators on YouTube videos.

Oh Jerome you think mischievously like me :)

·

Yup, just a marker. Use it for hours or minutes or however one likes.

Only the males have the red accent is the rumor, and dependent upon many factors, the rotation of the red accent in a particular order during the spring may attract an appropriate Hanhart partner. Perhaps a special edition of one is lucky. Happy mating…mate!

Whatever you need it to be

It’s so you know which way is up. If the red marker is on the bottom the dial will be upside down and you won’t be able to tell the time.

·

It looks like the 12 o'clock marker on a steering wheel of a sports car. Use them for drifting. The red marker should be pointed down the road in the direction you need to go no matter the angle of the car.

·

I'm using it to mark the hour hand when using the Stop Watch, because the Hanhart only has a 30 min sub dial. Therefore it's an aid for me to stop timing periods that extend an hour, like my commute or so.

I also like to use it similar to a dive watch bezel or as @ImNevix mentioned as reminder to do something after the minute hand goes past the red dot. I. e. throw out the tea bag, so my cup of tea doesn't taste bitter.

If you have any questions about the watch, feel free to ask! 😎
