Next Watch - Chronograph

Hey guys,

as my next watch i want to buy a chronograph. I already looked at a lot of different brands and the watch that i liked the most (by a lot) is this Breitling Top Time Deus. My Question to you guys is: Are there any other Chronographs that have a similar design? Or do you have other suggestions for a nice chronograph ( similar price range or cheaper) apart from the obvious ones (Speedmaster etc)?

The Sugess maybe a good option to see if you like the Breitling, under $275 mechanical movement. The one positive for Chinese homage watches is that you can purchase at a fraction of the genuine to see if you’d want to spend the money on genuine.

The Breitling is 5.800€, and i already looked at the Tudor and it is beautiful but it just doesn´t give me the same feeling as the Breitling. The thing i like the most about it is the colorful dial.

That may be the way to go. Thank you.

There's nothing else like the Breitling, with several colour options. (Though they're somewhat milking it with options that are supposedly based on cars). I couldn't justify the price and couldn't live with "Top Time" being written on the dial. But ignoring those prejudices, it's one of the best/ most interesting looking chronos out there.

·

The Breitling (& Sugess) are really nice. The colors are great. Another possibility?

This looks like a legit alternative, the colours are very nice and the price is definitly much more reasonable.

I just tried on the Premier moon phase. That would be my pick I think

Getting one at all will be the problem, but they come back on sale pretty regularly.

Tried this one on for size today..

This one is way below your budget and i love the breitling, but i think it looks amazing and could be a nice choice.

Already looked at this one, haven't tried this on my wrist yet though. But from the videos and pictures watched I think it's a great watch.

Another viable option to determine if a 2 subdial chronograph works for you is the Hoglund and Sons chronograph, another mechanical ST movement, American micro brand, I have no horse in this race but the two I own have been tremendous value and no issues.

·

I’m a bit biased since it is my most recent watch but if you want color I say the Skipper. A bit more expensive but in the same ball park. 39mm instead of 41.

·

Just get it, it’s a stunner. Nothing else will scratch the itch now you’ve seen It. You don’t need food or to pay the rent, get the watch!

A bit small for me, personally. I tried some on at Windup in SF… definitely thought long and hard about it, though.

Well this is very tempting to respond to...

The Top Time Deus is a fantastic choice as it looks awesome and has a solid chronograph movement (runs a COSC certified ETA/Valjoux 7753).

Image

Of course, there are some more Top Times...the new Top Times have upgraded to the in-house calibre B01 which will jump the price from $5,500 to $8,000, so you can find some really good deals on the old ETA/Valjoux 7753 movement references - both are COSC certified.

Here is the Top Time Cobra with the new movement...

Image

There are numerous other choices in the $4-6,000 range or less.

I'm assuming you are looking for a racing-style chronograph.

Here are some of my favorites in the collection...

I could keep going...but I'll stop.

Let me know if you want some more ideas...

I’m not certain but I think the newer calibre in the top time means the watch is a little bit thinner……is that correct? If so i think that makes it a more attractive proposition although more expensive

You are correct if you are comparing the Cobra to the Deus.

The Deus is 41mm x 14.3mm versus the Cobra at 41mm x 13.3mm.

The Kenissi movement in the Cobra also has a 70 hour power reserve compared to the Deus's 48 hours.

Is that worth $2,500 or 45% more? That all depends.

Here is an interesting article that discussed the difference between the old and new classic car references...

It's tragic that Frederique Constant is so undervalued. Still, that makes for great deals on the grey market!

·

I believe there is a reissue of this classic. Great heritage house and history:

I'd throw some Tag Heuers into the Mix, their new 39mm Carrera Chronographs are pretty nice, and will probably be a few € cheaper than a Breitling...

That's a fire collection you got there... I already took a look at the Frederique Constant, the green and red contrast is fabulous. How are you liking it so far?

·
DariusII

Why don’t you get it then?

Is the next watch I want to save for, I don't have the money yet, and I want to look at all the options I have. Mayber there's a watch I haven't looked at yet, that appeals more to me.

Thanks for the kind words.

FC's are great. I have a number of them in the collection and they are so well made. The price to value for FCs are really great. Classic designs, modern production and great value.

Try looking at the Hamilton American Classic! It’s a beautiful design
