I don’t think you’re wrong at all in being attracted to one brand more than others. I have this weird affinity for Bulova watches. I have 3 now. They are affordable and have a very unique design language. But I also love having other watches.
If at all possible, you should try them both in person. Grand seiko dials, more than any other dials I have tried, look different in person. In fact, these two dials that you’re considering look different in sun light vs. indoor lighting. For what it’s worth, I’m getting a skyflake this November.
I think the main draws of shinola watches are (a) their design language and (b) their status as a made in America watch. But they are overpriced. I encourage you to look into Jack mason watches (made in Dallas). They have a similar design language for a much more affordable price.
I love this watch so much. Hamilton makes really high quality watches, and this is the quintessential field watch. Glare has never been a problem for me. I would argue that it’s the best watch under $1000.
