Thinking of swapping

Hey all, was just wondering what your thoughts would be on selling my 3861 speedy hesalite for a grand seiko winter model. Been looking at that gs for about 3 years.

I may upset many here, but I think you should swap. I have your wrist size and I know that the Speedy is too big for me. Value wise, however, the Speedy will keep it price better than the GS. The Speedy is iconic, but I normally choose my watches base on fitment and visual appeal.

·

I would keep the Speedy. GS make beautiful watches, but they make so many that they tend to not hold value. Speedies, on the other hand, have increased in value and demand, thanks to Swatch.

I have had my sights set on the Snowflake for years.. and I still haven’t pulled the trigger yet. There isn’t anything wrong with GS, but there is just something keeping me from being totally committed.

Go with a 37mm GS (not their 39-40mm, they will be too big) and wait for Omega to re-release the Speedie reduced and mid-size SMP at long last. 😉

Only thing holding me back is finding a good fit with the gs bracelet.. no micro adjust etc

·

I say go for it. If you have had your eye on a watch that long and you have one you are willing to trade then I think it is worth it.

·

DO IT

My wrist is skin and bone so it doesn't fluctuate drastically during the day. I find the brace quite unnoticeable. It balances the watch well since GS tend to be on the tick side/top heavy.

·

Do it. If you regret it, swap back. Its not like the Speedy is rare

·

Do also consider the headache of servicing grand seikos. These pieces are usually shipped back to Japan for any servicing.

·

Have you seen the GS in person and put it on your wrist?

·

GS anyday. I've handled both up-close and there's no comparison (IMO)

·

I’ve tried on the GS and I absolutely love that one. For me, that is one that I would buy slightly used because of the massive depreciation those experience, as others have mentioned. They just don’t hold enough value for me to feel good about spending nearly $7k… And the bracelet lacks refinement. I would definitely wear it on a strap. But it is still one of the most impressive watches I’ve ever tried on. I have a 6.5” wrist and I think it wears great- better than I expected it would for a 40mm that I would normally think is too large for me.

·

Be patient, save more and have both.

·

Personally I would keep the Omega, you may regret letting it go. It will also keep value far better than the GS (they plummet in value).

Or why not have both 🫣🫣😉

·

Buy or keep the one that makes you smile more, you won’t be happy until you’ve experienced owning the watch you’ve been thinking about for 3 years!? Get the GS but if price/depreciation is a major concern get a used one.

·

Buy the GS used. But yes do it.

·

I’d get the GS. The spring drove movement is super accurate and reliable and the finishing is on another level compared to the Speedmaster. Unless you really want a chronograph this is an easy decision imo.

·

I personally wouldn’t. But that’s because I have no want for GS & I miss my Speedy.

At the end of the day it comes down to want you really want, & also what you have. Do you own another chronograph, do you use a chronograph much? The watches aren’t exactly comparable.

The Speedy keeps increasing in RRP each year, could you pick another one up if you wanted to?

I followed the wanting of something else and swapped my Speedy for a Monaco. Owned that for 9m and sold at a big loss, and would love a Speedy back again.

In your pic the Omega does look to big, but that could just be down to the closeness of the camera & angle.

·

Depends what your style is. If the GS is more "you", then do it.

But if you're still in love with the Speedy, and it's more "you", or even if it just suits more scenarios that you find yourself in, I'd hang onto the Speedy, honestly.

·

I would swap for the GS for sure. It’s a gorgeous watch.

Why did you get the speedy? If the reason is still valid, don't swap. The GS is on your mind. Did you try it on the metal? Why not keep both.

I traded in my girard-perregaux laureato and I got the speedy for free basically. I just never use the chrono in day to day life to be honest haha

I've been thinking on this for a few hours. I feel that you're discussing trading a chronograph for a three handvwatch Essentially a sport watch for a dress/office watch. I think the first question you need to ask yourself is which type of watch do you want more in your collection. I think they're both fine watches although I tend to gravitate more towards Grand Seiko, that being said I have several chronographs as well. I think that you should look at which one of those feels a hole in your collection that might leave you searching for a watch you don't have depending upon a situation that might develop. If you're fortunate enough to not have to worry about that, ie you have other dress watches and other chronographs that are that nice, then you should really look at the individual piece and decide which one has your heart more, which one could you see yourself reaching for more often, or which one would you be most proud of wearing. I think if you ask yourself all of those questions you will reach the answer yourself.

I have the new seamaster 300 professional in blue and the speedy with a bunch of lower end stuff strewn about. No real formal-ish type stuff and also I never use the chrono function tbh is a big reason haha

·

I have the GS winter. I love it, I have no regrets. It’s a great everyday watch, the style and colour works for about every situation. People complain about GS bracelets but I have no issues, I just set it once and it’s been a great fit ever since. I’ve never had a speedy but I would make the switch.

·

I own both (well the Shunbun) and they’re great watches.

I suppose you’ve thought it through already, only thing I’d point out is that you’re swapping a sporty watch for a (mostly) dress watch. If no issues then I’d say go for it!

Yea I already have a smpc300 so that will take over my sporty duty I feel.

Maybe the Speedy is not for you.
