Picked up a Vintage Credor. Sending myself into a quartz crisis?

A few years ago I was trying to find a hard-to-find Casio, and decided to consult the WatchUSeek WTB section. Ultimately, nobody wanted to sell me the watch, but the need to make an account to post made me think of my mediocre-pun username: Street.Credor. Unable to think of a better one when I made this account, the street cred carried over.

Founded in the 70s, Credor was established as a Seiko sub-brand for high-end, precious metal, quartz options. In the 80s, Credor also expanded to offer steel options, and this particular example came to be.

Here it is pictured in the 1980 Credor lineup catalog:

Focusing entirely on the Japanese market, Credor design usually strays from traditional Swiss styling cues in favor of unique case shapes and bracelets. The one I picked up likely had some inspiration from the Swiss however, since the rectangular case, cabuchon crown, and integrated bracelet liken it to a certain Cartemaur Pigier Royal Tank.

My first impression of the watch upon receiving it was "Wow, this is small". I don't have calipers on me, but here it is next to my 38mm, classically styled Jaeger & Benzinger. Wearing it on the wrist, I'd say the small size is growing on me.

Overall, the thinness of the case, solid bracelet links, and light weight make this very comfortable and enjoyable to wear.

However, since I am not a Japanese Businessman from 1980, I did make one slight modification to the bracelet clasp to help it fit me.

This watch is Quartz powered, and the inside of the caseback has a nice perlage finish.

Mechanical movements are nice; but the thin-ness and comfort of quartz is really starting to appeal to me. Am I about to enter my very own quartz-crises?

Thank you! That's awesome! I also feel like this won't be my last one

Quartz is great!

Amazing watch! There are extensions you can get for the bracelet. although the bread tie or string seams to be doing a great job.

Thank you! I might just need to invest in some of those extensions lol

I had to find a couple for some 70's Seiko's. Your bracelet is very nice! These integrated designs spill over from Taro Tanaka's Grammar of design. Beautiful watches

Welcome! This little guy is one of my most prized. Have fancier mechanical watched but I’ll admit this one spends a good deal of time on my wrist

That's a great looking watch!

Every collector needs to have a few "grab and go" quartz watches. Therefore, I would not overthink it too too much.

Agreed! However, overthinking is one of my favorite hobbies 😉

Thank you! I am hoping so as well hahaha

I am a mechanical/automatic enthusiast first and foremost, but do have a few quartz watches with their own specific mission. Nothing wrong with them at all, just a matter of personal preference like the car you drive or food you enjoy.

Thanks for the article, I am just finding Credor online now having fallen down a "I want a JDM watch next" rabbit hole and was curious about the cost, quality of these vintage pieces. Glad to find a post on one!

I paid $450 for mine, which is probably paying too much but eh. There are lots of other watches out there for less, but this was the only one of this specific watch I could find. Overall, the quality is really good! The bracelet is solid and comfortable, and it still shines after 40 years. If you want to try one out, I would just go on Ebay or Buyee and send lowball bids until you eventually get one. You'll probably get an interesting watch at a good deal
