Time for me to eat crow…

I recently posted my perception that the original moonwatch Speedy is undeserving of the hype surrounding it. I don’t dislike the Speedy, I just don’t connect with it. Then, I start seeing the recently released white dial option and I feel like this release is something I could get behind. If you were starting from scratch, had no watches, and the Speedy was your first buy - which would you choose?

White dial is growing on me but would keep it classic

·

I LOVE the white dial but if I was starting from scratch I'd have to choose the OG. Gotta start from the beginning in my opinion

·

I never really though much of the Speedy but today I had a gentleman come to my shop with one. Of course, we started chatting about watches and the more I handled the Speedy the more I liked it. I don't think I'll ever have the chance to own one but I think I get the hype now.

Love the history but the watch just doesn't do it for me, unexciting. Nice bracelet!

Yea, it’s hard to develop an opinion on watches youve only ever seen online. I love meeting new people in the watch community and experiencing watches I’d probably never experience otherwise.

The bracelet definitely looks the part.

Never liked the “Moon Watch”, liked some of the more colorful dial variations though not enough to buy one, but the new white, definitely would consider.

·

A, the black dial is easier to read under the sun.

·

White for sure. I’m not a speedmaster history buff so I don’t mind the variation and the white has more depth to it thanks to the color and the applied indices. Also I feel it’s more versatile with straps than the black which is saying something cause the black dial one is a strap monster.

·

Gotta be the original. I‘m a big fan of the understatement of black dials. The white dial version has too much white in my opinion and it’s very “in your face“

·

Still not connecting with the white myself. I own a Speedy Pro Moonwatch (with Moonphase) and I think they’re overhyped myself, as iconic as they are — I personally prefer the Speedy 57s by far, that would be my choice of Speedy over any of the moonwatches.

If the original speedy is undeserving of the hype, why is the 2024 white speedy deserving of your money? You should get a non-speedy for that kinda dough my friend 🤔

·

The Speedy Chronoscope is the one I want to get.

That’s dial is 🔥- don’t think I’d see. That particular one before.

I’m with you on this.

The dial is something else in person, changes colors very subtly between petrol green and black — it’s probably one of my favorite green dials (other than the Chopard Alpine Eagle, which is a god-tier dial).

The new white dial won me over to Speedys. That’s my next watch purchase for the primary collection. I’m not in a place to buy for about a year, which is perfect because they should be readily available by then.

Yea, that actually perfect timing for production to be all caught up and potentially even snag one secondhand at a bit of a savings.

·

Full circle, eh? You already know my feelings on the Speedy! The black dial is classic, legendary, and more tool-ish. The white dial is more elegant and classy. Pick your poison; can't go wrong either way!

This is so true. It’s happened innumerable times to me, yet I persist in judging watches based on online pictures. 😂

I’m biased, but even without mine, I’d go traditional first. But that’s in part because I appreciate the history behind the OG design.
