My wife gave me my grail for my 50th birthday

This is a bit of a late post. My birthday was back in early June, but I only recently got the call from my local AD that the box for my watch had arrived. Apparently, Omega has not had enough boxes for all the Speedmasters that they have been selling, especially through my local AD.

But I get ahead of myself. Let me start with a little bit of backstory.

I've been an Omega fan since the 90s, when the original James Bond Seamaster came out. I would frequently visit my local Omega dealer to stare at the Seamasters, but knew that would have to wait, since I had just purchased a very nice diamond solitaire to propose to my then girlfriend. Unfortunately for me, engagement watches were not a thing back then.

After a few years of higher priority expenses, including our wedding, our forever home and having our first 2 children, my wife gifted me with my first grail: The Omega Seamaster 2254.50.

I loved it then and still love it just as much today. It was my favorite watch for decades.

In that time, my career as a software engineer went down many paths, working for a handful of companies, large and small. Eventually, I ended up working for a small startup building satellites from off the shelf parts and launching them into space. It was the best place I have ever worked, and easily my favorite company to have worked for. I have so many fond memories of working there, including our first satellite launch, putting our signatures on the satellites which now orbit the earth, and taking pictures of our office building with our satellite, a.k.a the best selfie ever.

Basically, I began to think of myself as someone who works in the "space" industry and not the software industry. Being the Omega fan that I was, when I thought of what my next grail would be, there was no question. It had to be the moonwatch.

It took many years before we as a family were able to afford it, but finally, for my 50th birthday in June, my wife bought me the Omega Speedmaster Professional, and I am over the moon.

Very Cool. I don'[t care if it's a 40-dollar Casio. You have a wife who knows you and understands your hobby and what it means to you. You have picked Wisely.
