I had a few different watches growing up, including Fossil and Diesel. Nothing against those brands, but the watches I had were gigantic and uncomfortable. This Bambino was my first automatic, and what I consider to be the first watch that got me into other watches!
I appreciate your perspective here! I love quartz but dont love how quickly you need to change the battery on some. If I go quartz I tend to prefer Solar for the convenience. I'm also not someone who cares too much about perfect accuracy on mechanical/automatics, so I find a lot of entry level automatic watches still last much longer between repairs than quartz. I have an older Seiko automatic that has been ticking away consistently for over 10 years without a repair, even with some bumps and dents.
This is an AWESOME looking Orient! You peaked my interest so much that I reverse image searched and found a product page. Hopefully you find this interesting: https://www.helveti.eu/orient-classic-automatic-fez09005w
You are lucky to have this piece, definitely a hidden gem here! ๐
I believe that is a common quirk of many Orient watches, my Bambino does the same thing. I loved it at first until I had some slightly more expensive pieces that weren't so loud. Its all about perspective I think!
Awesome article and thought starter. Can't imagine how uncomfortable it must have been to wear a metal/leather watch on a marathon like that, espesially when it looks like he wore his Garmin on his left hand as well!
