GS 9F accuracy insanity ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

Hello folks

1 year ago to the day, on July 14 2022, I set the time on my Grand Seiko SBGN005 and recorded the occasion using the "Atomic Clock & Watch Accuracy" app on my phone.

On that day, Day Zero, the deviation was recorded on the app as +1 sec, due to a slight error in my initial setting of the watch. I decided to leave it be.

For exactly one year.

Today I repeated the measurement.

+2 sec. That's a net drift of +1sec/year! ๐Ÿ˜ตโ€๐Ÿ’ซ๐Ÿ˜ฒ๐Ÿ˜Ž

This thing is crazy.

Amazing accuracy! Looks great too.

Mine runs similarly. Love that about it. I don't have the jump hour so I have to set it wvery 6 months when they change to/from summer to winter but with that feature I think you will have a few seconds deviation between battery changes. ๐Ÿ˜ฌ that's crazy.

I've said this before and I'll say it again. 9F Seiko is the stuff to buy.

ยท

Ahhhh...this is a watch I've been looking at lately. If I weren't saving for something else, I'd probably be ordering one right now.

ยท

9F quartz gang checking in.

I was looking at the Tag Solargraph, and I balked when I saw the price tag. It's nice, but if I'm dropping over $3k on a quartz, it has to be a Grand Seiko.

The way the 9F movement ticks is so precise and beautiful.

ยท

That's very impressive, handsome too ๐Ÿคฉ๐Ÿ‘

ยท

To put it another way, the error rate is approx 1 in 31.5 million... ๐Ÿค“๐Ÿคฏ

ยท

Beast of a watch

And yet the accuracy stated by Seiko is +/-10 seconds per year.

Why is Seiko always playing safe with their numbers? Can they not actually commit or guarantee 1 sec/year or 5 sec/year?

I am looking at The Citizen/Chronomaster movements, they actually specify 1 sec/year for the 0100 caliber:

https://www.citizenwatch-global.com/the-citizen/lineup/cal0100/index.html

And 5 secs/year for the A060 caliber:

These are eco-drive movements by the way.

@sim303 I'm in the same boat, used the same setting process and got similar results, this is my dependable daily wearer and what a fantastic look! The Gs 9f mouvement is a technical marvel indeed.

How you keep happy customers (who don't return watches out of spec by one second a year, thus driving up costs): Under-promise; over-deliver.

Awesome. The 9F remains brilliant and a bargain for what one gets.

Well, Citizen is willing to guarantee that 1 sec/year and 5 sec/year respectively and they stand by their product and technology.

I am a Seiko/GS fan and for me it is sad that they do not do the same with theirs or maybe they can only guarantee those 10 sec/year of accuracy.

ยท

Wow, that's amazing!

ยท

I own a similar GS. And it is far superior to anything in my collections, including my Rolex GMT II

ยท

Yep. I have the SBGN003. First year (Feb 22 to Feb 23) it gained all of 7/10s of a second. The 9F movements are amazing!

I have seen this watch for the first time in a window on a very sunny day about 1 month ago and I was stunned by the polish on the hands and the indices. I have been reading on it since I have seen it and I will get this model one day even if I already have 3 GMTs. Also, I am not a big fan of quartz and I would still buy it.

The finish is immaculate, just as with any GS. Even if you're not really a quartz fan, there is something to be said for knowing there's one watch in your collection that not only always ready to pick up and go, but which is an infallible reference time when setting your others. My only caution would be, if you want this particular model, I believe it has just been discontinued. There is a replacement, but looking at it I don't like it as much as mine ๐Ÿ™‚

Yes the gs quartz are amazing I nearly purchased the limited edition with display case back because as well as being over accurate there also beautiful, going to be adding one back in the collection in the future
