Which of these ⌚ commentators/reviewers LACK substance?

Whether frothy, constipated, conceited, or just plain dumb, which of the following ⌚ "pundits" just fail to contribute anything useful?

I like Adrian’s videography and general style in watches. I like Jenni’s more feminine perspective in things and seeing the pieces in smaller wrists. But Nico for me is “just” a man yelling at a computer reciting Rolex/AP/Patek reference numbers.

·

Nico is definitely and categorically in the “fun and entertainment” segment for me so I don’t take his videos seriously. Its fun to have someone like him in the watch community. The other two are just classier influencers but influencers nonetheless.

·

Nico ist just a big loud idiot. The only thing you can give him credit for is that he knows how to be popular in YouTube.

·

I pretty certain I wouldn’t get on with any of them in person*; so I treat their content appropriately.

(* Mostly because I’m generally unlikeable)

·

Nico is fine.

If you are looking for someone who lack substance:

There’s a new YouTuber, he says this:

I usually prefer to ignore YouTube channels I don't find worth watching, rather than go online and create polls about not finding them interesting.

·

I think I'd probably punch Nico if I saw him.

He's up there with that self proclaimed "Pontiff" Archie Luxury as being one of the most annoying, self-important, arrogant tossers in the YouTube watch space.

Adrian comes across as very professional and id happily go for a beer with him, & Jenni is interesting & gives a different perspective. 👍🏻

·

I think it would be absolutely incredible if Jenni started featuring more microbrands;)

·

All of them- watches simply aren’t a substantial enough thing to base a whole YouTube channel on without becoming vacuous (except actual watchmakers and the like). As millennials age out the whole “sepia toned, jazz music, wool sweater” luxxfluencer thing has increasingly become seen as hollow and embarrassing and most of the watch YouTubers I’ve seen are wallowing in that aesthetic

I think it would be interesting if she posted about any other watch brand other than Rolex. Every video I see of hers, she’s talking about Rolex.

Nicco is there for entertainment.

Of the bunch, i say I gravitate more towards Adrian’s videos.

Anyone who was close to Roman Sharf makes me not fully trust them. Nico was part of the rat pack in that crew and they seemed to worship at the alter of the flex. Most of these guys remind me of used car salesman and after that Timepiece Gentlemen Ponzi Scheme, I could never do business with them.

·

Constipated?

·

I don’t get the appeal of Nico though loud and obnoxious has its fans across the globe as is obvious from our politicians. I found him entertaining at first but that quickly wore off. He adds little of value or substance on watches. He’s a cult of personality. Makes me sad for the more substantive watch commentators who don’t have near his number of viewers

·

Where's the None of them option?

·

For the record I actually did vote above and am disappointed with myself that I did. I struggled on what to say here. Until this I have found the group on Watch Crunch to be pretty supportive and positive, much like Strava, unlike many other social media communities. I think the folks you reference are all just trying to make living in a space they enjoy. If we don't value someone's opinion on YouTube we can just choose to not consume their content. Sorry for expressing my opinion on this, but felt the need to say something.

·

Adrian doesn’t talk about anything anymore. At least Nico tells me the price of things. Love that guy

·

Nico is dumb but entertaining, so he's still watchable

Jenni and Adrian are dreadfully boring at this point, I don't even bother watching their videos anymore. Nice macro footage though

I like Roman's content, it's very polished and watches like a reality TV show, which is cool.

I don't think that any of the people in that "rat pack" should be held responsible for Timepiece Gentleman's fraud.

At the time that they were making videos together it wasn't necessarily obvious that Timepiece Gentleman was committing fraud. And it's not as if one youtuber should be held responsible for investigating every other youtuber they do a collaboration with to ensure that the other youtuber has a legitimate business.

Obviously you have a responsibility to associate with reputable people in life and doubly so when you are a public figure, but there's a degree to these things and I think it's pretty unfair to judge every Youtuber that associated with Anthony / Timepiece Gentleman just for having made videos together or having been friends.

Basically you're damning people by association.

Now, whether they have tacky taste and whether they sell a "flex" culture that is emotionally unhealthy? That's a separate thing. But Timepiece Gentleman isn't the inventor of "rich people with ego issues that buy expensive baubles" and I don't think Timepiece Gentleman has anything to do with THAT critique of Roman's content.

You are totally correct, you definitely schooled me on that. I was speaking more from an emotional level, but I totally agree with that last paragraph. I was a big fan of Grey Market and Roman, but there were a lot of stories that came out from the last crew that left that made me wonder how much he did know about TPG. He did have a great show, that I really enjoyed watching in the beginning and was something I could easily see on television.

However, you are right and it would be unfair to judge him just for doing business with him. I just dislike the flex culture so much, I can be a little too judgmental, but hey take it from where it's coming from, I'm a 59 year old guy who collects Timex and Peanuts watches. lol. Thanks for making me expand my thought process with regards to this.

Funnily enough, despite his grating act, Nico probably knows the most out of all of them. He's also most deeply entrenched in the business, so he has to know more.

The other two are great if you want to watch videos about the Explorer on repeat.

Sorry, that's probably enough negativity for one day. It's still good that there are people creating content that people enjoy.

·

He’s not part of this poll but I think the You’re Terrific guy is pretty dang funny. I like the Bowl of Salmon (don’t get that name) guy too. It would be pretty tough to make watch content week in week out. Oh, I don’t listen to many podcasts but on road trips I like listening to The Grey Nato. My comment doesn’t have much to do with the actual poll but I’ve typed too much to not post it now…

·

Folks, you need not vote in these polls if you do not like them.

The reality behind these specific three reviewers is their inability to assess anything objectively.

Every episode mentions Rolex (AP also for Nico) at least once.

I am not here to divide waters about Rolex but how are reviews objective if Rolex is the perpetual yardstick?

It does not even make sense to compare every ⌚ to a Rolex.

Those of us with employment and responsibilities cannot drive down to the authorized dealers to try on these ⌚, which makes the value of these aforesaid reviews welcome.

Objective writing strives to go beyond what the author knows off the top of his or her head and delve into the subject matter to learn something new to inform the audience.

There is criticism of negative energy and lack of support.

Well, support is rooted in truth, and frothy reviews or those dictated by barking characters is not in the interest of useful content.

Those who may claim that I should not watch these characters if I dislike them can know that I do not.

I just wanted to take the temperature on some popular reviewers, and I can see that YouTube reviews are not important sources of information, which is fine.

So, how do all of you get exposure to ⌚?

Archie Luxury is a very sad character, and I feel for him.

I hope that he can find peace in his life.

Pompous as he is, I was quite perturbed, nonetheless, at the theft in his house.

His safe was HEAVY and thick.

Didn't know he'd been robbed. That's not good. Thank you for the info. 👍🏻

The fact Nico outvotes All of Them on a platform for watch nerds speaks volumes.
