Maybe just get a Vintage!

I have been looking at the BREW GOLD, Citizen TSUYOSA and the Tissot PRX lately. I like that vintage integrated bracelet shape. ALSO thinking i wanted something kinda flashy/gaudy for summer, probably GOLD (but not expensive watch gold). THEN it hit me, instead of a gold watch based on a vintage style, why not look at vintage watches?

80's and 90's quartz watches can be had for under $200 and have that look im going for.

This may happen soon. Thoughts?

Sounds like a good idea to me! Get a nice watch at a good price. Is the photo a Citizen you are looking at? If so, go for it!

Yep thats one of them. I dont know if im gonna really fit in with a gold watch or not. SOOOO also a good testdrive for a new obsession in more expensive watches :)

Just put Tissot into the search field here and you’ll get the idea that the PRX is definitely hugely popular but it does feel like everyone has one.

At least with a nice vintage watch, not everyone will be wearing the same and - as you say - good ones can often be had for little money. The very early quartz movements are still able to be serviced and a lot of the later ones can simply be replaced.

The big drawback is integrated bracelets as the old ones might be quite well worn and difficult to repair and/or replace. And bracelets back then weren’t built any better than they are today - often the quality was worse. That’s the main element of caution that I would raise.

Enjoy the search.

You are exactly right on the everyone owning the PRX. But love the vibe of it!

Thanks for the thoughts on the vintage stuff. I figure quartz is the way to go for keeping it cheap. dont really have to worry about a cheaper auto movement not having been serviced in 30years.

BTW i hate that "vintage" is when i was wiping my own ass already!

The watch pictured is gorgeous.

I would tell you to get something that looks NOS or well maintained; I had a 1970s era king Seiko that was pretty but maintenance was hard because the parts availability isn't there and watchmakers aren't really interested in servicing quartz

More discipline buying something in good condition will save you emotional headache later. I ended up selling the king Seiko at a 50% loss

For the price, if it craps out, i can use it as an opportunity to start taking watches apart and attempt to change the movement myself! win/win

·

Great idea. Here is a 1985 Citizen CQ Day\Date Analog Quartz - Champagne Dial\SSG Bezel (34-9682) on a Vinacreations ostrich leather strap.

Says everyone, all the time… another lamb to the slaughter

You say flashy/gaudy, I say vintage elegant swag.

·

I have a Seiko Silverwave Quartz that I’d take over the PRX all day. Very similar dimensions and 42 years of history in it.

I had this very same itch that I scratched by getting my hands on this Q TimeX. It's a vintage reissue, so best of both worlds.

·

Great idea, great choice too. My dad had that exact watch, passed it on to me and sure enough 18 yr old me lost it.

You should try to get one of these, it would be a watch with a story to it.

I do want a vintage watch... I'm thinking Omega or Seiko though but with my huge wrists... I'm always hesitant. I don't wanna go smaller than 38 and it's hard to find a 38mm that I like and can afford.

I recently had the same inclination, so I jumped at the chance to score this beauty. While I’ve enjoyed wearing it, I must say, it hasn’t clicked with me the way I thought it would. It’s a great piece in solid working order, but I’m looking to pass it along to the next lucky collector. Let me know if you have any interest in buying mine!

I like it! Getting into my first white dial though :)

You might want to reach out to @GasWorks for several good options moving forward. @Guvnor64 will surely agree.

·

Something like this? I've refurbed a few of these and they look pretty good once done..

Actually more of a gold or 2 tone bracelet and a white face. Damn fine looking watch though!

I'm sure @GasWorks may have something with your gold or 2-tone bracelet and white face. If my memory serves me correctly, he refurbished and sold a number of those types in the past... most likely to @Guvnor64 hehehe...

Take a look in the loft! - My first vintage watch I found in my mum's attic, not been touched in more than 40 years! Gave it a wind and a shake amazingly started straight off (Swiss quality)...(only needed buffing up). Was mine when I was a kid!
