First Bronze, First Oris

I have long been intrigued with bronze pieces. The idea of a watch evolving from brand new to an aged patinaed look has always inspired me to be able to experience it first hand in all its glory.

However, after months of searching the net for the best patinaed look on a bronze piece, I have all but given up on my obsession. A lot of the different brands I have checked-out either don't age evenly which looks fugly IMO or they developed a green substance probably due to oxidation and just feel yucky! 🤮

Luckily I chanced upon the following YT video which rekindled my obsession for a bronze piece.

https://youtu.be/ac6bt8NAI4Q

I contacted several AD's inquiring if they had one in stock. Only one gave me a positive response. And, it was the last and only piece available. After much negotiation the owner gave me a 40% discount! How could I resist?! 😋

Thank you so much my friend! Wish me luck in a few months. I hope the reality turns out fine by then. 🤞

Congratulations on your new watch! 👏

I also like the awesome concept of a watch, aging with you, but I would be also very scared that the watch won't age evenly or getting green.

I wish you all the best with your new watch! How is the lume? And does it have Oris' caliber 400?

·

All bronze patinas differently. There are a ton of factors that dictate patina. Most of the extreme green stuff you see on line is a result of "forced" patina but there is a chance, depending on climate that any bronze might get some green patina-but nowhere near that science project crap.

I wouldn't expect anything except something that,in the end, is unique to you.

Mine are all natural patina that ,at no point, have ever taken a lemon bath and never will.

Thank you kind sir! The lume is ok. Not the greatest I'm afraid. No, it doesn't have the caliber 400. It has the caliber 751 which is a Sellita 200 derivative. Better for servicing though and for the price. 😉

Wow! That's a lot of bronzos! Thank you my friend. I just hope I would really appreciate how mine would turn out eventually. 🤔

·

That's one great bronzo you got there my friend! I understand brands use different bronze alloys that is why they age differently though. 🤔

Patience my friend. It would come around somehow. 😉

I had this watch too, but the smell of the band made me sell it :-/

That's sad to hear sir. Well, the band can always be replaced if it ever turns out that way. I hope it is not the watch head itself that gives out that foul smell. 😂

I like a nice, uncomplicated dial, like this. Very nice watch.

Big congratulations 🍾🎉

Got the watch and for a big discount.

Check out my journey on my bronze custom piece when you can.

Thanks! Wow, I wish I too have the courage and skill to make my own build! Very nice patina on your DIY piece my friend. Congratulations to you too! 🥳

That is one of the reasons I went for this piece aside from the aged look of it in the video. The dial is so legible and straightforward! No complications and a big date window at that, which doesn't strain my eyes to read. I believe I am really gonna love this piece! 🥰

Yes, classic feel and a fine watch. Enjoy 🍷

Great piece , that would be a better bet than the Stowa Laco IWC etc variant of Flieger to me if I was looking for this type of watch . I own two watches on Erika’s straps so completely agree about making the watch too . Congratulations on a nice timepiece

Thank you so much my friend! I'd probably consider getting an Erika's strap later on for my piece. Too bad it doesn't have drilled lugs or quick release strap to make strap changes a cinch. 😪

I tried but found myself uncomfortable with the patina and I was constantly cleaning the watch. I also didn't like the smell of the bronze, yes you can smell the bronze.

Sorry to hear that sir. I hope I don't get the same unpleasant experience. Well, we'll find out in a few months or so. If so, at least I would have experienced it myself and move on from there. 😊

You should try it for yourself. Maranez offers brass case watches at reasonable prices, you can try that almost guilt and risk free. Get on the mailing list and wait for the sale if you aren't in a hurry. I tried one of course but it was pretty much the same result as the bronze for me.

I'll take note of that. Meanwhile I'll see how it goes with this Oris. Hopefully it would not be that bad. I'll post pictures in a few months or so of its aged look and feedback on the smell issue. 😉
