What do you guys think about Hodinkee? I personally don't care about them, I may even say they annoy me a little bit, all the overpriced collaborations and just the vibe they have. Any thoughts?
Hodinkee used to be really cool. I quite enjoyed their articles. though recently the publication seems more like never-ending thinly veiled advertisements for several companies.

Ever since the $5000 travel clock fiasco in 2020 Iโve pretty much despised them. Theyโve gotten rid of most of their interesting writers at this point. Iโm not even sure who their target audience is. I guess itโs โBrosโ
You can hate on Hodinkee all you want, but they've contributed greatly to the very community that all of us are proud and privileged to be part of. It's a project that stemmed from true passion for horology (high horology, in particular), and we have to respect that. Now, it is undeniable that it morphed into a cash grab, which was hard to resist in the 2020-2022 frenzy - such a low hanging fruit for them and they reached for it. 2023 was a reckoning for them and they should, in principle, be happy about it since the community will once again be federated around passion for watches, not the enticing short-term profits.
Donโt care much for Hodinkee personally. Many will agree itโs very different than it was 2-3 years ago. For watch publications my favorites are Fratello, Worn & Wound, and recently the Deep Track(Blakeโs new venture since he left Worn & Wound.)

Where did I said hate? I just don't like them, whatever they have done in the past, that "true horology passion" you talk about is long gone.... So much passion on selling a 5k travel clock right? Their writers are gone, their passion is gone.
I said it before and I'll say it again. I washed my hands of them when they published that "letting someone wear one of your watches is like letting someone have a go at your wife" article. Creepy as hell.

WHAT? I didn't know they said that! What a ridiculous and yes, creepy statement.
To me as an OG and first time on WC, Iโm surprised at the diversity of opinions especially the folks who have either never heard of HODINKEE or are so new to it that havenโt had the chance to see and hear the back catalog they have especially Talking Watches, some of the Radio shows, and all their excellent Reference Points. If you love watches it can be a great resource to learn more. As well as the archives of Timezone.com and the Purist.

I need to find that article and post it. I remember being completely disgusted by it. I don't remember if it was one of their staff writers or a guest. It would be nice for them if they could disavow whoever it was.
I do to give them much thought. Another watch media brand. I don't dislike them and check the app on occasion. They don't influence me. They just exist like any other media group for watches

I forgot about that. That was a bloody odd article ๐ญ
I started with this hobby pretty mouch as the first talking watches Video aired .. so yeah I pretty mouch enjoy Hodinkee although I dont like every single move or content
I used to really enjoy the week on the wrist and the talking watches vids. But there was a long pause in any content and now I haven't watched one for a long time.
It definitely doesn't feel independent anymore - there's very little critical thinking in the review articles. It all feels like either sponsored content or promoting friends/investors.
I really enjoyed it when Jack Forster was there. No they just seem to be going in a different direction and I donโt really take notice of them anymore.

I'm not their target audience, so yeah, they annoy me a bit. But not enough to hate on them.
Have seen the name but not familiar with what they do.

Advertising agency. I agree.

Overpriced sums them up perfectly.

I donโt mind them; live and let live in my book; plus they did this rather lovely collab with Autodromo, one of my favourite micros

Apart from James Stacey and is it Marcus, the guy who was a YouTuber, they are tedious in the extreme
Sometimes I find this site/ app just that. Having to be the โdifferent oneโ to be cool & against the mainstream.
Thought we all grew out of that!
That sounds like all of social media, sadly.

Don't care but I respect ben clymer for making a living out of his hobby
I liked the John Meyer videos. Other than that I donโt read or watch any of their contents.
Used to be about the Watches, now it just seems to be about marketingโฆ

Hodinkees staff seems to be mainly comprised of dudes larping as their own fathers
Once Jack and a couple others of that era left, it wasn't the same anymore. Every article feels like an advertisement for one of their LVMH brands.
