We all have that one watch that we know is ugly, is not our style, but somehow we love it. Lucky for me is a watch I will never own because of the price. ๐
Ah yes. What I like to call the "ugly duckling watch" because I know it's ugly but I kid myself that it transforms into a beautiful swan, the moment I put it on my wrist.
I offer this glycine. Is it a field watch? Is it a dressy moonphase? Why does it have all those seconds and 24 hour numbers cluttering the dial? What's up with the massive and unnecessary crown guards? Why the gaping 22mm lugs on a 40mm watch? That sunburst is a bit garish! Etc. Still love it.
I do not care how much that rainbow Daytona costs, it is bloody ugly and my wrist thanks me for it never having to endure the shame of having something that hideous wrapped around it!
Intellectually I know any rainbow gem watch is the pinnacle of tackiness...but I don't care. There is something about multicolored jewels arranged in a pattern that will always make me melt.
I love that Daytona. Might be because Iโm a member of the rainbow coalition, but I love me a rainbow gem set watch. Omega makes a few gem set versions of their Speedmaster and I might choose it over this Daytona.
They also have a Sedna gold version with rubies. I love that one almost more than the rainbow one.
So, I donโt think I answered the question because I totally would rock these gem set pieces in a heartbeat.
I think for me, I have respect for the Jacob & Co Astronomia line but I would never put one on my wrist. Theyโre freaking massive and itโs like having a snow globe on your wrist. I massively respect the engineering involved, but thereโs no way in hell I would ever buy one or wear one because it would look like a practical joke on my wrist. Theyโre 20mm thick!! But I have a huge amount of respect for them engineering a roulette wheel on your wrist so that you can play high stakes casino night with your billionaire friends.
In my opinion, anything with any kind of stones on it is a no-go. I think it's passable on women's style watches, but I think on a men's watch it's a bit iffy, even if you do it subtly, like on the hour markers, I still hate it.
I donโt think I can both think that watch is ugly, but also love it. If I love something, it means this thing is beautiful, at least in my eyes. But then again, taste is 100% subjective.
Not my style is another thing. I generally dislike modern steel sports watches and prefer something either dressy or field-y. But some watches I find beautiful. I would never buy one of those and I wouldnโt feel comfortable wearing one of those, but I just like the photos and wrist shots and other people stories.
I think that Rolex Submariner is like the opposite of my style, but I still love the milsub. I donโt think I would have the spare money to just afford it and wear on a regular without worrying. I really donโt like the Rolex Submariner, I think it lacks character, depth and elegance, but thereโs something about vintage milsub that makes me look at this watch online.
Tudor Submariner, specially the Mini one - completely different story. Those are stunning. Still not right up my alley, but I think those are very rich in character, while being a nice wearable size.
P.S. Rainbow Daytona? I hate the Daytona in general, but rainbow gems somehow make sense. I would rather wear this brick of gold abomination than a steel panda version.
Jacob and co watches pretty much. So much going on, itโs not even a watch at that point but you look in, and look in, and look in, and the watch starts to pull you in until you fall in love. At least thatโs what happened to me on a few of their watches
I had no interest in this thing, found it ugly, don't like Bulgari, don't connect with the Prada / Chanel / YSL crowd ๐๐ฉ ๐๐ก๐ก - not my thing, ๐๐ช๐ฉ โฆ once I put it on wrist?
Good lord.
It's really, really good. If I had Korean hatchback money to spend on a watch I'd buy one.

Looks like someone vomited and put Rolex on it

Yeahโฆ. I have this Rolex, I owned it for years but I still havenโt opened it

I wonder what it smells like though! A watch company cologne, well I never!
Some watches are nice to look at, not nice to wearโฆ

Correct.

It's everything I hate about Rolex in a single watch. Not least being I can't afford it.
Itโs pretty much the only Rolex I actually like.

And my own recreation which is eerily similar:

I knew this one would come up at certain point

I totaly understand this thing you have with rainbow bezel. I already thought of geting hommage from pagani design.
Horrible.
Great input. You said so much.

I love a lot of those gem set daytons and yacht masters

Roger Federer's wife pulls the craziest Rolex's off. https://www.bosshunting.com.au/style/watches/mirka-federer-watches-collection/
Personally I like the James Bond/ Jamaica homage that Omega made. I'll never afford it though so I'm safe.
The Octo Finissimo - most def.

Exactly the kind of answer I was looking for.
Not a fan of jewel encrusted watches. But to each his own. I have some funky watches I love.
Beautiful Shorokhoff!

Looks much nicer in the flesh.
Beautiful Shorokhoff!
Thanks
Nope....every watch I own is beautiful...๐
I wonder if this watch has had its value hammered as per other some other high end pieces in the market at present?
