Oris Big Dial Pointer Date Vs. Seiko SBDC115

Hello everyone! This is my first post on Watch Crunch, I am looking forward to hearing your opinions. While the Seiko is a much more affordable option, I am interested in purchasing my first luxury automatic watch. I love them both for their obvious similarities. I'm a sucker for the green dial, railway minute track, and cathedral hands.

For me, the Oris' pros are the bronze case, coin edge bezel, and pointer date. While the Seiko features the beautiful texture dial, applied indices, and cheaper price tag.

What would you pick?

Darn, that is a really tough one!

If there were one Oris I would get, it would definitely be that one.  It's absolutely gorgeous.  Love the pointer date.  Love the contrast  between  the red-tipped pointer date hand and the lush green dial.   Love everything about the bronze!

The Seiko is fantastic.  So fantastic that I bought it.

You're right that one of its selling points is the cheaper price tag.

Man...  I'm not gonna be any help at all.  I think they're both excellent choices and that you can't go wrong with either!

I lean more towards the Oris, but honestly…I think you’re in a great spot and can’t really go wrong with either. Now granted, that‘s me just basing this all off looks. I’ve never owned either and can’t speak to anything else about them.

Thanks for the input- it makes me feel better knowing I'm not the only one hung up on the two. I was able to try on the Oris, and that bronze is just fantastic. Hopefully someone will make a side by side comparison soon, maybe then I can decide.

Both great watches.  I think the Seiko is a modern watch with vintage callbacks.  While the Oris is a modern watch that looks actually looks vintage particularly with that bronze case.  Although I prefer the dial on the Seiko more, I think the overall composition of the Oris gives it an edge.  It looks the part just a bit better.

Of course there is that price difference as well and there is enough of a difference where that may sway you the other way.  There is certainly nothing wrong with the Seiko it's one I've considered.

But if you are truly looking for a luxury watch, that just is that small bit more authentic to that outdoor exploring vibe I'd say go with the Oris.

Just like deciding to have red or brown sauce on your bacon butty, what is wrong with having both, spoil yourself doesn’t have to be both at the same time buy one and save for the other, we are living in tough times so treat yourself

·

I’d say if you can justify it get the Oris. If you get the Seiko because it’s cheaper you might end up getting the oris later on anyway

Try both and see which one sings to you. Can’t go wrong with either one!

You won't regret with either option b/c we all know this is only your 'first' :p Get the other one later. So simple!

Edit - my personal choice will be Seiko just because it will go better with clothes I wear and with the savings I'll probably get some straps to change the look time to time. But both looks amazing.

Both beautiful watches and superb quality for the price. You can't go wrong with either.

Something to consider is that down the road you will find more SEIKO watches that you will want to add to your collection and if you want to have a more diverse collection (not mostly SEIKOs 😅) then it's good to explore other alternatives.

The same goes for ORIS. If you  like other ORIS models that you might want to purchase in the future, better get the more affordable SEIKO now and start saving for the next one.

A couple of alternatives:

My personal pick would be the Oris. Not only do I consider Oris the more sympathetic brand of the two, but the Bronze case looks super dope. They did an amazing job with these pointer date watches. I in fact have the Big Crown ProPilot in Bronze (which is my first and only Bronze case watch) and I love the look! Oris is an emerging, independent brand and their watches prices are damn competitive.

·

I'd also pick Oris. Im definitely going to pick up a big crown pro at some point but waiting for them to introduce their new calibre to some more interesting variants. Having said that, I really like the dial on the baby Alpinist

·

Update, I visited my Oris AD and tried on the pointer date with the full bronze bracelet. The bracelet sold me. Still haven't purchased, but hopefully soon!

·

I can't say I've seen the Seiko, but I got the Oris on a bracelet about a month ago.  The depth of color the bronze shows is pretty amazing.  In pictures, it always looks brown, but mine has mellowed to a warm, burnished gold that I love.  Also, the green dial isn't as "forest" as I think it looks in the pics, which was my one concern buying online.  The slightly muted dial and the bronze...it's just perfect.

I would go with that Oris with that patina. Looks amazing.
