Does your significant other notice when you buy a new watch?

I recently added Santos de Cartier brown dial to my collection. I showed it to my wife and asked, "Just curious. Would you have noticed it if I hadn't told you?" She answers, "No. I know you have quite a few watches but they look all the same to me. I'm just not interested in watches. Do you notice when I buy a new ring?" Fair enough. But I'm surprised because this Santos is the only square watch and the only brown watch in my collection, and so different from everything else I own. (Not that she has no interest in anything I have. She notices when I buy a new tie.) What about your SO?

Working on having that problem lol. People who know I am into watches and who I have shown some of mine will ask if they are the ones who are interested, but the others don’t notice.

No one ever seems to notice

Mine approves every purchase, which curbs my addiction 🤗

We notice Bob 🤝

·

I’d be glad if she didn’t notice 😂

·

She doesn't care what I buy with my money and yet I'm always embarrassed and take a few weeks to show her. She'll usually have already noticed it and not cared 😅

·

Click and collect is the best thing ever 🤣

On two occasions I've had a watch delivered to work rather than to home in the the hope that I could later say, "What? This old thing? No, no, I've had this one for a while, I just haven't worn it much lately- I can see why you don't remember it..."

So far so good! 😬

I work from home about 90% of the time and my wife is retired, so the hopes of sneaking in a new watch are minimal. Click and collect sounds marvellous, but if you live in Austria and are into microbrands and JDM watches it's not really an option.

·

Always deliver to work or collect in person and try and naturally blend in to the collection as if it's been there forever. I think I managed it with my latest one, but the one before that there was a definite double take followed by a hard stare 😅

·

I literally have to shove my watches under people's noses before they notice!

·

My wife was a little nervous on one occasion when I took her to visit the guy who was my vintage watch seller before we married in the 80s, the shop was in a gritty part of Toronto, with soup kitchens, social services etcetera made me promise to develop a new routine, she did not believe it was safe to carry cash around that shabby neighbourhood. Years later I buy all my watches from the best ads, boutiques around the city but she is still mostly ignorant of my many watches unless she absconds with one for her own use.

·

My wife doesn't notice when I walk into the room, let alone what watch I am wearing 🤣

·

My gf notices if I'm wearing a watch she hasn't seen before for sure. If I ever show her the photo of a watch she'll always text back "ugly." But when she sees a new watch on my wrist she always likes it.

·

Very often, it's "why don't you ever wear the one we just spent a bunch of $$$ on?"

Guilty as charged...

·

Yes. And in full transparency - I include her in most of my purchases... It's easier this way

Have you tried the non-sport models like day dates, OPs, Explorer (shoehorning this one in), and date justs? I’m curious what she thinks about GS

She loves my Tag Heuers, My Raymond Weil Freelancer Collection Basquiat Edition and most of all my Grand Seiko SBGY026
