Vintage Watches

Hi all, I have been looking into vintage watches recently. I was wondering if anybody had a good brand / place to start for something dressy yet affordable.

Or if you own some vintage pieces, please share photos!

I love the look of vintage omega, there constellation and seamaster models are lovely. I’ve not looked much into Kind Seiko. Thanks for the suggestions !

Tread lightly, start with things that work, maybe less valuable. Research, research, research.

·

Ingersoll is good on the affordable end. Could also look into vintage timex or bulova.

I love the Omegas, but there are also some nice Hamiltons and Bulovas.

Yup. Hamilton, Bulova, Seiko, Helbros, Elgin. There are so many options that are more affordable than Omega, which obviously is great, but give yourself a warm up lap first. No reason to drop 500-800 while you're still figuring out what you like.

Omega is a good choise. Geneve models seems less costly. Or why not Certina. Great watches at at least half the price of Omega.

Rado, Certina, Titoni, Camy etc all usually have robust Swiss movements that will be straightforward to service should the need arise and are more affordable than say perhaps Omega. Buy the best condition you can afford.

Besides @Aurelian, I believe @MrBloke and @GasWorks, together with @YourIntruder and @Whitesalmon, can also give you words of wisdom, and point you in the right direction.

Been collecting for years now and have found a like minded gentleman that caters to my wants. First is a Hamilton Square B from 1929. 14K white gold filled. Fully restored, cleaned and serviced. Next is a 1949/50 Gruen Curvex Executive with 3 diamonds on the dial at 12, 3 and 9 positions. Solid 14K yellow gold. This watch sold back then for $200 new! Note the triple tier crystal. Fully serviced and cleaned.

Unless you're looking at something that has a good service history factor in servicing into the price of ownership.

I love vintage watches. Names like Omega, universal, or Bulova are the usual suspects. I would also like to add on King Seiko and Grand Seiko. They are fairly attainable with history and stories to boot. Just be careful with redial, Franken watches and aftermarket parts.
