SOTC Q1 2024

Hi everyone,

I thought I'd post an SOTC for the beginning of the year, so I can compare now to the end of 2024. I only realized the other day, that I have been through 42 watches in my life so far (that I know of), so my collection is constantly evolving and will probably continue doing so.

As of today, I have 5 watches in my collection (I have 4 memory watches I don't wear anymore).

  • Tudor Black Bay 36 (M79640-0002) - the new kid in the box

  • Omega Aqua Terra 38mm (220.10.38.20.03.001) - I like to have an Omega in the collection, and this is my fav of the catalogue

  • Grand Seiko Mount Iwate Autumn Dusk (SBGW303) - pure art

  • Longines Spirit 37mm (L3.410.4.63.6) - want to gift this to my daughter when her tiny wrists are big enough to wear a watch

  • Seiko 5 (SNXS73K1) - reminder for what a watch "needs" to be and long time friend

I have one more purchase planned for 2024, a Rolex Explorer 36mm (124270). But depending on when that'll be available, I might get myself a different b-day present in July 😀

I guess we'll see how the year goes. the BB36 is still very new to me and I have yet to get used to it properly, so it's still in the probation period. The other watches in my collection are keepers, so nothing on the chopping block there.

looking forward to hearing your thoughts!

Iconic timepieces!

That’s a lovely collection.

It is a salutary lesson that it took you 42 watches (and presumably quite a number of years) to arrive at such a well balanced place. 👏🏻

Thanks! 🍻

Yeah, it took around a decade to find out what it is I actually want in a watch (collection) 😉

Still optimizing, but the direction is somewhat clearer, I feel.

·

Absolute killer collection. All 5 out of 5 pieces with plenty of versatility! Hope you get your Explorer 36 this year. 🤞

·

Excellent selections!

Not seeing a diver in that collection, coupled with no plans on purchasing a diver, is making me feel some type of way

Haha, yeah, lot's of people get nervous around a collection without a diver 😂 Don't think I've found the one for me yet. We'll see what W&W24 will bring, plans are made to be changed, after all 🤣

Thanks man! We'll see if and when Rolex decides they want my money 😂

·

This is a brilliant collection. Add a GMT, maybe a Christopher Ward Sealander and I'll make an offer on the lot 😂 with that addition, I would say it's a statement that says, I don't need a Rolex to have the perfect collection.

·

Which was your first?

Which was your first?

You mean my first watch ever? I remember having a Flik-Flak as a child, but couldn't tell you which one exactly. Then a couple of G-Shocks until I ended up at Fossil. And from there to Junkers and loads of different brands, to where I am today

·

Somebody has a "type"

Love the consistency here it's a really impressive collection

Thanks, haha, but won't be letting go of the lot anytime 😂

Yeah, I don't think the collection desperately needs a Rolex, but I feel like my personal Trinity of Omega/GS/Rolex is my goal for the year, and there's only one missing 😉

Haha yeah, mine is pretty obvious 😂 but yeah, this is what my taste has evolved to. However, I have no doubt, that it will still evolve further in the years to come

Wonderul collection! Love every piece you have there. It's funny how once you've had so many watches, it's hard to keep track of every single one you've owned. I've had around the same number of watches as you and I'm not sure on the exact number either lol

Hehe the only one not revealed yet is my father's old Constellation from the 70s, as it's currently being refurbished. But the rest is all there. Yeah, I like simple three-handers but I'm also quite fond of divers. Currently planning on selling the SPB143 and hopefully adding 1-3 watches to my collection this year.

Cool, any list for the 1-3 watches, or just see what happens in the industry this year?

·

Excellent 👍

·

Oh the list is quite looooong 😜

But at the top of it are the CWC RN Diver 1983, the Grand Seiko SBGX 343, the Longines Legend Diver 39, the Grand Seiko SBGX259, the CWC W10 quartz and a vintage King Seiko 56KS.

But things are in constant flux and I might end up with completely different watches 😂.

·

That’s a solid collection, right there! 👍🏻😀

·

Great collection

·

Milguass is what I would add if sticking to your current theme.

·

Awesome collection!

·

Bravo👏🏽👏🏽 can't wait to I see how the year ends 🤔🫡

Would find that an interesting option, but the prices are pretty unreasonable atm imo.

Oh the CNC diver would go perfectly in your collection 👌🏼

But yeah, lists tend to change a lot in this hobby 😂

i agree but they are falling fast looks like. might be the year!

That strap can work on all your watches nicely, almost thought you bought all these watches to match the strap 👍

Haha yeah, just a shame it's 18mm and most of the watches have 19mm lug width 🤔

·
norrecc

Yeah, will share some thoughts in the coming days. But to put it simply, I think I would go for the Explorer, instead of the BB36, if I had to chose.

One thing I’d like to check if possible & you don’t mind. What’s the lug width and does the bracelet taper? If so do you know what to? Many thanks

Lug width seems to be 19mm according to my measurement, tapers down to 16mm with 18mm clasp.
