Long story short..ish
Many moons ago, my buddy Evan and I partied pretty hard..a little too much. Flash forward to our early 30’s and I decide it’s time for me to throw in the towel. The hang overs are getting longer and more debilitating, it’s effecting my work and private life. An all around bad situation. I cleaned up my act, stayed in and focused on myself. This meant not seeing Evan much aside from the chance encounter on the street.
A couple of years ago Evan reaches out and tells me he wants to sober up for good to which I’m extatic. You lose a lot of friends when you make a drastic change like this and if I could get my old buddy back and help him better himself in the process… win/win.
Now here we are, in our late 30’s, both maintaining healthy lifestyles, both physically and mentally. I see Evan very often now and our friendship is back to what it once was, just without all the booze and late nights.
Yesterday, Evan popped into my work which isn’t super uncommon as he lives a few blocks away and my office is on his walking path for his daily dog walk. He came in and told me something so heart warming I almost welled up on the spot. He told me that I inspired him to get sober and sort it out and is eternally grateful. He then hands me a small ecru cotton pouch and says “I got you a little something”.
I open the pouch and to my amazement, that little something is this 1966 seiko sportsmatic. It checks all of my boxes and just goes to show how well my old buddy really knows me. I will have this watch for the rest of my life and proudly wear it as often as I can.

Wow, that's an amazing story on many levels, especially the supremely awesome connection the two of you have through your respective and paired journey towards being sober.
The Sportsmatic is a cherry on the top, I have a 1967 that is a little different reference but a great watch! I'm sure you will treasure your relationships every time you look at that handsome timepiece!
