One Watch Girl (Kind Of)

I recently got back from a trip to New England where I bopped around Massachusetts, Maine, and Connecticut. Since I was going to be spending some time in Acadia National Park and wanted to disconnect a bit from, well, everything, I challenged myself to only pack *gasp* ONE WATCH!

Image

I had recently gotten this Bond NATO from CNS Watch Bands and loved it, so it went on my Murph and hopped a flight to Boston. I brought one white leather Barton strap with me in case I wanted to swap it, but I left it on the Bond the entire trip. It kayaked a pond in central Maine, summited a couple peaks in Acadia NP, and assisted in the enjoyment of a shameful number of lobster rolls. 🦞

As much as I love my watches and their various associated trinkets, it was nice to not worry about any watch choices all week. The Murph’s a gem, obviously, but I also loved the freedom of a strap I didn’t have to baby.

Image

I wore it doing the two mile loop around Walden Pond in Concord, MA (where Thoreau lived for two years in a cabin in the woods), as well as Minute Man National Historic Park, where the Revolutionary War began in 1775.

Image

The host of the lake house our first night in Maine asked us to decorate wood pieces to contribute to an art wall/collection of past guests, so I of course had to leave a little horological something.

Overall, I’m happy with my choice to simplify. The Murph was great company and I think I’ll make it a point to pack light in future trips and pick a watch that can be a constant companion. Less time spent selecting leaves more time for wild blueberry picking on the Maine coast. Not a bad trade! 🫐

Great adventure and great choice in Timepiece! 🤩

·

You are SO brave! When I read that you were only packing one watch I had to order a second drink before I kept reading! Looks like it was an awesome trip with an awesome watch!

·

Nice! Trip sounds amazing!

I just got a batch of bands from CNS. Loving the cotton NATOs! Gonna have to get a Bond.

Great pics, great read. Thanks!

·

Thanks for sharing! The Murph is a classic, especially on a NATO. 👍🏾

On a somewhat related note - anyone with experience with Barton, Zulu Diver, and CNS? I have a bunch of Bartons that I like (their Cordura/rubber strap is my favorite right now), but I’m looking at getting a few NATO-style straps, and wondering which I should go for.

·

I’ll be heading up to Connecticut to visit family & go to the Wind Up Watch fair in October. Been trying to determine which pieces to wear as well. 🤔

·

Reads like a great vacation, thanks for sharing the great photos, and cool watch.

You’ve inspired me to travel there,

I can’t resist lobster rolls!

Sweet photos. Sound like you had a great trip. I’m trying to convince my lady to take a trip up to bar Barbour. Will show her the fun you had.

Sounds like a full vacation…we just got back from 3 weeks in Mass and I took 5 😂 taking 1 is impressive

That's a good choice!! Hamilton has a history of being good field watches

·

Sounds like a great trip to do, pics are cool and the band really suits your watch 🎯

·

Great looking Hamilton with those cathedral hands!👍💪🏼

Is that a Breguet Minute with Snowflake Hour hand!? Visionary.

Haha! It's either that or the latest Grand Seiko "inspired by nature" dial.

·

Looks like you had a wonderful time!! Enjoy the hobby...

Lovely images, and what a belter watch. Out of curiosity did you get it after watching Interstallar or just like the watch for what it is?

It is definitely on my list, love the look of the Watch, plus it’s a Hamilton so can’t go wrong 👌🏻

Murph is great travel company, except I took my murph to the beach and now the shiney bezel is full of scratches 😭

I noticed a few more on mine once I got home! 😅All part of the story!

·

I always travel with one watch if it’s not a long-term trip (something under a week or so). Provides a good chance to bond with whatever piece you bring.

·

Great scenes. Love the Bond vintage & regular black grey natos. Wondering if they make larger sizing for 7.5” wrists?

·

I’m kinda proud that I recognised the watch from the first photo… ✌🏻

·

Love the handset on the Murph. Good choice!

Unholy

beautiful trip 😍😍. it the murph safe while you do kayaking? thx for sharing

It was! It has a WR of 100m, so I wasn’t too concerned about a couple splashes. 💦

Excellent story! The Murph is on my short list of next watches to score but your account of it here makes me want to track one down ASAP.

Get it! It’s become my almost-daily wear.

I did get it after watching Interstellar, but I would say the movie accounted for around 30% of my overall decision. I love Murph as a character and found myself relating to her a lot, especially the stubborn tomboy to dedicated academician storyline. My friend @Gasanche who got me into watches has the Coop (the Hamilton Khaki Pilot Day-Date Auto) so having the complement in the Hamilton Murph also reminds me of him a bit.

Mostly, I wanted a Hamilton for awhile but tried on a 38mm Khaki Field Auto and the lugs were too long. The Murph 38mm with the resized lugs fit just right. The numerals and the vintage inspired design just made this one in particular stand out to me and just felt like “me.” I wear it nearly every day!

Oh my. Why, thank you! *bows*

A really nice watch choice and, yeah reflection or time out from screens, is so good for revaluating what's actually important to you, right?
