NWA: Ebel Sports Chronograph El Primero (ref 9134901)

This Ebel (ref: 9134901) is the new gem of my collection. It is an Ebel el primero from 1984, which has the El Primero caliber 3019PHC, which were only used from 1982 to 1986. These Zenith movements are a remnant from the 70's, which were kept by Charles Vermont after the collapse of Zenith, along with the plans to make such a movement. These movements were completely assembled by hand and were considered haute horlogerie, la creme de la creme in the 70s. The most popular and most sold version was the Two-tone (golden-silver), which became famous through the series Miami Vice. For this reason, this all-steel variant is quite unique, as it was only produced in small numbers due to low demand. The watch belonged to a German artist living in Switzerland, which was inherited by his daughter. The watch came with the original papers from 1984, all revision papers as well as replaced parts and the brochure from 1984, in which the model is presented. Simply sensational. I feel honored to own this watch. The Daughter only wanted to sell it to a true watch collector who appreciates the watch and its history. What an honor that she selecte me!! The watch is in excellent condition and the movement runs crazy +0 seconds per day as you can see in the picture. The movement is in excellent condition and is a beauty for the eyes, which one could look at all day. Simply perfect. The watch sits very well on the arm and has an unique style. The bracelet has hardly any stretch after 40 years and looks as solid as the first day. Simply perfect. Now let's enjoy the pictures!

Nice my friend my birth year and its 39 not 40 yet don't rush it 😂👌

Wonderful watch! I owned a gold and steel iteration, a gold and a different quartz gold and steel model. My niece still has her dad’s gold and steel Ebel Worldtimer model. Very distinctive design. One of the best advertising slogans: THE ARCHITECTS OF TIME. I wonder how challenging it is to find straps for Ebel watches today?

Stunning looking watch.

That’s amazing and so cool. Congratulations!!!

Another great story in the world of watches. Thanks

Ebel used to have really good watches. Too bad that they have been lost through the sale in the late 90s. What does the worldtier look like? Do you have a reference? This advertising is just wow hahah love it!! I would love to have a vintage poster where it says that. With this beautiful bracelet I probably need no Straps haha But I think it should be possible to find something:)

Hi marcep, I will ask my niece to take a picture of the Ebel Worldtimer when she has time, imagine a plain Ebel with that distinctive case shape with a wide flat brushed steel bezel with the usual key cities engraved on the ring in black. When I bought my Ebel watches they came from a newly opened luxury goods boutique in Toronto’s old Chinatown near my office back then. The Worldtimer watches that I sourced were ordered in by the Swiss gent who was the Canadian agent for AP, Brequet and most successfully for him: Breitling. When Freddy was the agent he enjoyed 3 fabulous decades selling Breitling watches to boutiques across Canada. Ebel had the most imaginative advertising but lacked distribution and decent representation here.

@TOwguy these models are amazing, thinking about buying one!

I sold off my Ebels a million years ago along with so many other great watches, lol needed the dollars because I was a young guy. It is ironic that finally I can afford watches more easily not that thrilled with the market. I do have a 10 year old Breitling Transocean Worldtimer with the BO1 in house movement that I love. However it is a big watch not for everyone. The Ebel in the photo is fitted with a different bracelet than your chrono one of the finest bracelets that I have ever owned. It was fitted to a TT quartz diver with an amazing sapphire bezel.

Oh man, that's heart breaking to here. These Ebels are just amazing. Just saw that they also did a chronograph like mine with a perpetual calendar. That's just amazing how t beautiful they look. I feel you, the new watches don't give me the same feeling as the old watches. The proportions from back then are just on point. That's a beautiful watch but also big. I do not think that I could pull it off at my wrist. I have the tudor panda with the B01 movement, love the watch as it was my first luxury watch but it's quite big in comparison to my vintage watches very the proportions are just nicer. So you can recommend the worldtimer that I send? It looks really good!! My wave bracelet is already good, I can imagine that this one is also good. What does TT means? Lucky man that you had the chance to buy them new. I envy you, in a good sense!

TT is two tone gold and steel. Yes the watches were pretty amazing but we are living at a time when there is so much variety. When I first started collecting vintage they were abundant but no support like today. Straps were hard to source for the older watches.

Of course we are connected via the internet. I can chat with a friend in Paris or my chef collector buddy working in London England. Prices are much higher than yesrs past. The watch enthusiast community was small but the guys who were in it were real characters. I met some really crazy dealers back in the 80 and 90s.
