I just picked up my most recent one today. Chronograph is what it checked off. Speedmaster finally in the collection. With that, I’m also done for awhile now. Going to take my time and enjoy the variety of my collection.
That’s a tough one. If you’re indifferent to which type of GMT you’re getting, then you really can’t go wrong.
Monta is really, really good. I just recently got the Oceanking and it’s getting a lot of wrist time. Everything about it is great and it is way more premium than the price tag suggests.
As far as the movement, they claim they regulate it to -5/+5, but put on a timegrapher my Oceanking is running at 0/+1 in the positions I tested. To be fair I only tested three or four positions, but when I saw it was consistent I didn’t keep going. I should also add that this is after I somehow managed to magnetize the watch, and then had to demagnetize it.
All that is to say the Monta is worth serious consideration here. Both are beautiful and you really can’t go wrong.
I always considered a beater to be a very inexpensive watch that you don’t care what happens to it at all. What you’re describing always hit me more as a “daily”.
Either way, a diver can be an every day watch in my opinion. These days you certainly can wear one with dressier stuff if you want to.
If you get one, wear it whenever you want. That goes for that or any dive watch really. It does suit many situations.
I’m not a Rolex fan due to the AD bs, so I actually didn’t know the newer ones were more shiny than they used to be. That sounds like it changes things.
Omega Speedmaster Hesalite - $7k
Nomos Orion 1989 Ref 326 - $2300
Furlan Marri Mechaquartz chronograph - $650 (approx. since it’s CHF prices on their site)
Total $9950
Edited to swap Longines Conquest for the Nomos because I forgot about the rule that it can’t be anything we own or previously have owned.
