JOHN WICK

John Wick wears his watch upside down; all the cool guys do. With his active lifestyle, he never has to worry about scraping his crystal on some door jamb or someone's teeth.

It’s so he can check it and so that the crystal doesn’t reflect light and give away his position

·

He also has a suit that can take bullets with seemingly no damage, routinely gets hit by cars, falls from deadly heights, and lets not forget about the 19 hour staircase sequence in the final movie. All things I also would not want to do in real life. :-)

In all seriousness, I get the appeal, but for us mere mortals without the god mode cheat code who have to work a desk, that would be an immediate fail.

It's a very niche way of wearing a watch, that is mostly done these days to look "tacticool". It's like wearing your sunglasses on the back of your head/neck. It lets people know you're a "high speed, low drag" badass...

The character John Wick does it because it looks "cool" in a movie.

How the heck does one fasten a buckle up there? Or is this one of those gimmicky deployant things? There are easily five other style problems visible in one photo.

·

I’d rather tilt my wrist inwards rather that outwards. But that’s the beauty of watch ownership.

·

To pull this of properly one needs a Vacheron 1921.

Most of the people I've seen wear watches this way are actually truck and bus drivers. (I worked "on the road" in the music industry.") Those steering wheels are very wide, and drivers usually want to keep both hands on them in traffic. They also have tight schedules to keep. It's easier to just glance down at the inside of your wrist to check the time while driving one of those behemoths. 😎

Actually, I used to shoot USPSA/IPSC competition here in Southern California with Taran Butler. Taran is now who everyone in Hollywood goes to for firearms training. And yes, he trained Keanu Reeves. The videos of Keanu on YouTube running and gunning are at Taran's training range.

That's awesome. I've used that video and the one with Halle Berry in some of my classes.

This video is of me back in the day before I focused on Olympic shooting. I never shot that fast because I was all about accuracy.

Taran Butler, and Taran Tactical Innovations are OG.

And in real life Keanu is a fairly avid three gunner, and been in a few matches over the years.

Rockstar, gear head, gun guy, nice guy, gamer, etc.

Love them or not, The John Wick series has brought back "gun-fu" action movies, and I love it.

Also look up Keanu rocking a shotgun during an old 3 gun match. IMO, he has some pretty good skills. On the other hand he is a perfect example of why it is important to train, and learn from good instructors.

I for one would NOT want to break into his home, with him home, just sayin.....

Those fools who keep it doin it are idiots. FAFO, YMMV. 🤘🏻🤐

I wore my watch this way on Saturday night. I went to see the Nutcracker with my wife and daughter. I wore the watch "Wick Style" so I could check the time during the show (how much longer?!?!) without moving my wrist.

In my day to day life, wearing a watch that way would destroy my watch or my keyboard or both.

Thought it was so shades didn’t give “bacon” to T shirt collars

I am wondering since I bumped into the first discussion of John Wick's watch wearing habits, who the heck checks the actual time in the middle of a gunfight? Also, why wearing a mechanical watch, if the exact time is so important?

·

Weird. Growing up in Britain in the 70s this was regarded as something of a girl's way to wear a watch. Oh well.

·

I used to do this when I was in the army, it prevented "glint" but also made it easy to check the time whilst maintaining two hands on my rifle during a patrol.

I'm not sure there's much need to do this with a dress watch whilst you're in a suit, even in Mr Wick's line of work. 🤣

That second part is cuz it was a gift from his wife. No clue on the first TBH....

Its not like he was expecting air support, exfil, or fire support to happen lol.

But you never know, I've seen and heard of weirder things happening in real life, human reactions to a firefight can get weird/odd.

·

Except when he handles guns, which is all the time...

·

What I have been told is that historically, wearing your watch on the inside of your wrist was done so you could easily check the time without rotating your wrist. It was done mostly by pilots, drivers and for some reason doctors and nurses. Much the same reason that some pilot watches have canted faces so it is easier to read at a glance without having to move your hand or let go of the controls of whatever you might be working with to check the time..

The cool part is, it's a JLC....

This isn't that unusual. I remember seeing people wear watches this way back in the 80s, but it became impractical as watches got bigger and bigger. Back in the days of tiny field watches it was common for soldiers to wear their watches on the inside of their wrist. It was more about tactical benefits than avoiding damage to the watch.

On the underside of the wrist the crystal is less likely to catch light, but more commonly, you can check the time while carrying a rifle, or taking field notes, or generally having both hands occupied. If you're moving to a geographical point for a coordinated effort, you can easily get a time check without breaking stride while keeping both both hands on your rifle.

In the series Lovecraft Country, Johnathan Majors' character Tic, who has recently left military service, wears his G.I. field watch this way.

You still see it sometimes in professions that require a lot of manual logging, such as nursing.

I used to work in a shipping yard and I wore a field watch this way when I had to be out around the docks carrying a clipboard, completing checklists and logging arrivals and departures by hand. I could see the time while writing and log it without having flip the whole clipboard over or transfer it to my right hand. Later on, we automated our system and I spent more time banging around in trailers than scribbling notes, so I started wearing a G Shock instead.

One nice social benefit is that you can check the time in front of people very discreetly.

I think he wears it like that so he can check the time and shoot his shot at the same time.

Only military personnel care about time and shooting at the same time. He is the JOHN WICK, he checks his KPM(kills per minute). 😂
