My First Ever Grand Seiko!!

Just want to share my excitement over my most recent purchase - since I dont have anyone else to share my giddiness. It’s a super cool vintage grand seiko!!!

Originally I always thought that the GS I wanted to be my first ever was the Shunbun Sakura (SBGA413A), which I was planning to save and hopefully get for my birthday. But I saw this vintage on one of the IG vintage seller I follow and the “batman” case -as the seller described it- really attracted my attention.

On paper it shouldn’t attracted me: it’s hi-beat instead of spring drive, the dial is satin finished instead of the sakura style i wanted, etc… but something about the watch really attracted me.

Finally ended up visiting the seller’s watch store to see it live (in which I was bombarded by so many other cool vintages watches (one of the highlight was a super cool, almost pristine, vintage Harvard chronometer)).

After chatting and learning a lot more about watches in general for almost an hour I decided to pull the trigger on this piece. He supposedly give me an extra discount since I was willing to drove all the way to his place and come in person.

Unfortunately, the watch required a bit of minor tuning before he could give it to me. Something about the power reserve is at ‘0’ and need to be release and there’s an odd click when he set the watch hands. I’m a white belt as according to @dumihed classification, so I just took him at his word. He promised to deliver it to me the day after.

Well that day is today. He delivered the watch earlier this afternoon and I can safely and confidently say that I have entered into what many Crunchers refer as the “honeymoon phase”. Not sure how long this phase will last (for the sake of my wallet, hopefully it’s a looong period from now).

Anyway… suddenly I also lost the urge to hunt for the Shunbun (for now). 😁😁😁

That’s my long rant about my new old watch.

Hey!! I think it is the same watch! But your case is polished so nicely. I dont know where I can get anyone to polish it for me.

The display caseback is such a good idea! I’ll see if I can get it, too…

Can’t agree more. But it’s also a slippery slope to a black hole for my wallet

I wouldn’t have it polished. There’s no way to get it even close to the original finishing. Better to just leave the sharp edges.

Ahh… okay. Thanks for the insight. I’ll leave it be then.

Great writeup! Enjoy the new piece, it's a beauty. It's definitely not something you see every day, not even in watchcrunch. I hope there are many years of enjoyment to have with this GS!

·

Congrats!! I think GS high beats are way cooler than spring drive

Looking awesome

What a cool watch. What's the lug to lug on this?

If my measurement is correct it should be 40 mm lug to lug.
