A Dial to Die For by Citizen

Currently in Japan for a work trip thinking maybe I finally will be able to muster the courage to buy a Grand Seiko. I went out of my way to visit the Seiko Tower to check what’s available.

The one tha I’ve always wanted was the one with the sakura dial. Unfortunately, (or fortunately) it wasn’t available and though there are other types that tempted me but I’m going to spend around usd 10 grand for a watch, I want the one that I want.

Spent the next 1-2 hours browsing Swatch group stores. Saw the new tissot diver with a soft lavander dial but I already have my Orient (with the misprinted minutes) with similar colors so I didnt pull the trigger.

Left Tokyo to Hiroshima for the next leg of my trip thinking perhaps when I get back to Tokyo I can browse some vintage places to see if there’s something that’ll catch my eyes.

In my downtime in Hiroshima I was just walking around in Ondeon (kinda like Bic Camera) when I notice they have a watch sections. I was blown away with the selections available in that place! That’s when I notice the Citizen’s NB-1060.

This watch does deserve the award of the best dial of 2022 by Jody. The blue silver lacquer is to die for. I don’t think my picture can trully show off the depth, sparks, and shading of the dial. I would describe it like a mix of the sea and a peacock tail feather.

There is another version that also has an amazing dial but it is thicker at 15 mm since it has power reserve and 24 hr indicators (2 complications I don’t care much about).

The cherry on top is that with the yen being cheaper than usual, black friday discount, and no tax the price became such a bargain.

And so anyway, that’s the story of how I became the owner of one of a watch with one of the beautiful dials I ever lie my eyes upon.

Gorgeous! What’s the model on that one? Now I need one!

I’ve been eyeing their AQ4xxx series HAQ with amazing washi dial colors too, but I really wish they would stop putting the “Citizen chicken” on the HAQ dials. The “Automatic” text on the automatics are just so much more tasteful.

C’mon Citizen, I don’t want to buy your high tech Japanese watch just so you can slap on a chicken logo as if it was made under the Holy Roman Empire!

Lol… I was eyeing it, too, at the store. But then the dials options are not as nice as the NB-1060 series.

NB-1060… i do think the Japanese needs a better way to identify their watches. Not with bunch of random alphabets and numbers. Sigh…

It will be referred to as ‘that Citizen with that nice textured dial’ 😂 or we can nickname it the Citzen GS, as to me it evokes the looks of a Grand Seiko
