Rolex Sky-Dweller

Hi, Watch People

What do you think about the Rolex Sky-Dweller?

If you own one I'd like to hear your experience with it

If you don't I'd like to know what you think about it too

As a watch enthusiast I am always looking and researching on watches, lately Rolex have been on my mind (I have a Datejust 41)

Looked into the Sub (Iconic but too common) also looked into the Explorer 2 (too tool watch)

I saw and tried on the Sky-Dweller, it was beautiful, the function were easy to operate with crown. It's nice enough to be a dress watch but also fits as a daily wear I think

What do you think?

Thank you

I think it is a cool and interesting watch!

I did not keep mine but I think it is a fine, fine watch, unlike the other Rolex watches a bit of an outlier in the catalogue. I bought mine from a friend who did not want to deal with the complication but he soon realized that the watch would be well received by fellow passengers during his luxury annual cruise vacations. I agreeably sold it back to him, haha. Ignoring my childish friend, I can recommend it at list from an ad.

It’s a nice watch. I was offered one some time ago, and got to spend a few mins with it. It’s very nice, interesting complications. I ultimately passed because I felt it reminded me too much of my DJ.

In my opinion it's the most underrated Rolex. I would want one in blue.

The blue is definitely more desirable, but I am drawn to the black dial

Probably one of my favourite watches in the collection. The command ring bezel is just such a cool way to interact with the watch and despite it being an annual calendar it’s so simple and easy to use. Really really rate this watch. It’s just so well made and just genius how Rolex displays all the information. Oh and dun forget it has a GMT function as well. I personally would go for the oyster bracelet. I was offered it on the jubilee but later one switched to the oyster and find it more comfortable.

The only downside is that it is a relatively thick watch so you will need to make sure you get the sizing spot on.

Yeah, I played with the bezel for a while, and it is genius the way Rolex designed it. The one I am being offered is an oyster bracelet, I think the oyster bracelet is less dressy therefore much better daily wear

A bit chunky but still cool

Not as chunky as the specs would suggest

·

It’s rad, I think it’s a fascinating piece, love the way the crown and bezel function together to adjust everything

I have to be a dissenting voice here. I owned one for 3 months. I don't think it's a good watch at all. It suffers from trying to do too much and it's not particularly good at any of the things it does. It's a sub par: dress watch, sports watch, GMT, and annual calendar. It's main "innovation" falls into the category of, 'they we're so taken with what they could do that they didn't bother to think about whether they should.'

·

I don't, but a coworker has one they wear regularly and I really like it... on him. It's not for me, but it's a large, impressive peice that works on the right person

Hmm, never thought of it like that. Thanks

The annual calendar function is especially poor. The red mark that moves around the dial is just silly. A good annual calendar displays the month in one place on the dial, you know where to look, and you read it.. The SD sends you on a visual treasure hunt and then asks you to do a mental calculation to conclude which month it's displaying. Just silly and pretty useless anyway. I generally know what month it is. A Datejust or a GMT Master II is a much better watch.

That’s interesting, i didn’t understand the appeal until I saw how it functions, but I don’t know all that much about how it would be day to day. I enjoy watches with some unique personality. Unfortunately I don’t think I’d ever be able to afford one so I guess I’ll just admire from afar and never have to worry about it lol.

·

I think it's main 'function' is that you get to explain to other people how it works and then they're duly impressed.

·

Hahaha fair enough

In my opinion it’s the ugliest Rolex. The Datejust on the other hand is the perfect Rolex.

I took a peek at your gallery. All great watches, I’d say you’re done and can call it a day. 😃

·

It’s my daily, and I absolutely love it. Robust, 100m water resistance, gmt, annual cal, good size (yes thicker thann other Rolexes, but relatively thin). At retail, it a bargain. Looks good in a suit, and very cool when dressed down.

Very nice in the actual compared to a photo unless it’s an ultra high resolution image , very nice but a tad too busy for me , very classy watch though. If you love it and have access to one , hey what’s stopping you but money and availability, if you can get over both hurdles go for it:)

Okay I kinda stand corrected. I’ve never seen one in person, always considered it the ugliest Rolex (until now, seriously, and it’s still not in person) but this white dial is…beautiful?!

·

John Rahm approved!

·

For me, a bit of a nothing watch.

·

I dont have one... but im sure that's a fine watch from rolex. Just be sure not to pay over retail!

Thanks ha ha. Yea the white is way less “hot” than the blue, but I definitely prefer it. The white is almost a super light silver that pops in the sun. Really cool imo.
