Thoughts on Invicta?

I know this is a controversial topic.

I sort of get why some people hate Invicta. The brand is known, basically, for two type of watches: designs which are (almost) a one to one copy of famous timepieces, and designs which feature +50mm width.

While I'm nnot a fan of the latter, I think the "homages" are a nice and affordable option, specially given their price point and the quality they offer for it.

This is my Pro Diver 8929OB which I bought more than two years ago for roughly €100.

To this day, I think it's the best golden watch at that price, except maybe for golden Casios, which feature a complete different style.

All in all, as long as people don't fall for the overpriced tags on Invicta's online store and its fake discounts, it can be a great option, whether to buy the affordable alternative of a notorious design, or to get a big "manly" watch.

I do not really like Invicta, but that is based on personal experience and has nothing to do with their designs. I am not a fan of their big blingy watches, but that is my own taste. My issues with Invicta stem from three watches shooting craps within about two weeks. When I started collecting, I got into Invicta homages and purchased about five within half a year. I had just ordered the fifth when the problems began. In one, the bezel popped completely off and could not be reattached, in another, the movement came entirely free in the case, and the crown and stem pulled out in the third. Only the movement was covered by the warranty, and all they did was sent me a quartz replacement. After that, I gave up on the brand.

·

I think their homages are ok but the 50mm+ ones are awful.I mean who can wear that and look good. They also lack in quality control not from my personal experience but that's what I heard.

·

I think there are many criticisms against Invicta online and from YouTube. It was definitely better in the past.  hence I am biased and would not consider them. But then, if you like it, then enjoy it! Cheers

·

The brand is crap, sorry not sorry

·

No problem with Invicta's watches or homages as such. Not my style, but then a lot of watches aren't. My issue with them, as others have said, is the fake deals they do making people think they are getting a much better watch than they actually are. Feels a very dishonest way of operating and if they are dishonest in that regard then what other dodgy stuff are they up to?

·

I don't want any watch with the brand deeply etched on the side.  No thanks, looks tacky IMHO.

·

I think a lot of younger/new watch enthusiasts these days start with an Invitca Pro Diver. Shame people don't view the Pro Diver in a similar way to the Seiko SKX which got a lot of the older generation of watch enthusiasts into watches.

·

Invicta is an odd bird, meaning that it sells watches in stores, online, and through shopping channels. The entertainment value of those shopping channels is relatively high, even though the content borders on the absurd. (I remember a German channel selling watches while in front of the Invicta headquarters in Miami, with a Ferrari and a Lambo in the background, and a model in a cocktail dress on the side, clearly not understanding a single word the German announcer was saying.)

Yet they are successfully selling these watches, and from what I can tell, they seem to have a decent amount of repeat customers who collect these watches, as they come in a huge number of variations. From a pure fun and entertainment aspect the watches seem to deliver.

I bought a Pro Diver once to use as a practice watch. My daughter's comment was "Eww, blingy!", and she was probably correct. However, for what was delivered for around $70 I had no complaints. The bracelet and the dial are long gone, but the movement functions realiably, and a blue silicone strap, a new dial, and simple watch hands helped a lot to de-bling the watch.

All that being said, I think Invicta's business model is actually pretty sound.

I started on a Costco purchased Pro Diver decades ago. Beat it to death. Still have it. It's a good little starter.

You be you. If you love/like it then more power to you👍. I have one in my collection and non watch people like it.

·

My watch journey is a bit funny in that an Invicta 8926 was my very first automatic watch. Purchased on Amazon like nearly 11-12 years ago, I recall my criteria for selecting it was: needed a metal bracelet, had one of those “clicky” bezels (seriously didn’t know what they were for at the time 😂), and had a lot of good ratings on Amazon. As ludicrous as it sounds, I didn’t even realize what I purchased was an automatic… it just had more 4+ star ratings than the quartz! 😂 I wore the hell out of that watch and it opened the door to this crazy hobby. This is all to say, it’s a fine first watch and in the end you should wear what makes you happy… good luck!

So, you would reject a Blancpain Fifty Fathoms Barakuda because of the deeply etched "Blancpain" on the side of the case if somebody gave you such as watch? 😉

Well no, but I'd probably sell it to fund a grail watch.  I'd take any watch if it were free, probably even an Invicta 😀.

I can't get on board with Invicta.  I think calling them "homages" is a nice way to say copycat...they don't use other watches as inspiration, they copy their aesthetics completely.

Sorry, not a fan.

·

I spotted the first post and thought: “ha — this is gonna be good!”

I can’t really disagree with most of the comments here, but I’ll refrain from piling on.  “If you can’t say something nice…”

Homages and huge/gaudy watches really aren’t my thing, but I’m glad you found something to enjoy at a reasonable price.👍

A £50 impulse buy feeding my yellow watch interest…….it received  more comments than I expected none were negative.

Wow that case finishing...what is the model?

I think they are fine. Most of their designs are not for me, but at least they are original designs. What I really like about them, is they get more people into the hobby!

·

Invicta is entry level Chinese cheap crap that is only saved by the Seiko quality movement with the saving grace of being easy to mod into a great watch. Get one while your AD waits to get you a fantastic watch.. maybe 3 years...

·

Invicta for me is about 2 kinds of watches. The cool homages and the uncool giant originals. I do like their automatic homage line, like 8926ob. At the time of the purchase I was in awe about silver-golden strap with blue dial but thought it would be a bit too much of an eye grabber from the outside world.

·

I just got a pro diver since I wanted to try out an auto diver, I probably wouldn't have bought if I didn't see it in a store. For the 70 bucks I got spent, it's not bad! There's a few downsides, but I figured I'll wear it for a while and if I don't dig it I'm not out $100 plus dollars on a "decent" watch.

Talking about Invicta, I continue using my ProDiver as a modding practice watch. It looked more like a Seiko before, so I turned it around a little. I'm slowly getting better, meaning not obvious mishaps on the dial or the hands, and I got the seconds hand in place on my 4th try. That being said, I'm sure this watch will keep changing. 😉

I plan to buy a invicta pro diver, as I am a young man with a family and a very small budget to put towards the hobby.  That being said I have read up on the criticisms of the aesthetics of the pro diver, the engraved logo, the over brandin, and plan on heavily modding it, thus removing the issues and making ”my own” watch

I just bought one on Amazon for 79 bucks... it's a nice watch...

ITS NOT CONTROVERSIAL AT ALL.  THERE ARE TWO PEOPLE IN THE WATCH WORLD.  WATCH SNOBS AND THOSE WITH A BRAIN.  INVICTA IS AWESOME SIR.  NOT ONE OTHER BRAND THAT CAN TOUCH THEIR VALUE.

I HAVE 60 INVICTA WATCHS AND 175 WATCHES IN TOTAL.  NEVER HAD AN ISSUE WITH ANY OF THEM

Hey, like I said on your livestream the other day, I am more a fan of your channel than I am of Invicta. I won't ever fault someone for their choices, and I am really glad to see so many people have had good experiences with Invicta, but I have a hard time spending money with them. I really liked the look of the 1953, but I just couldn't get past my own personal experiences. 😀

Yes sir. Nothing wrong with that.  Always buy what makes you happy!

I don't have a problem wearing an Invicta. In fact, I think they have some fun watches for the money
