I like to think that I'll wear all of my watches on some type of rotation, but invariably what ends up happening is, a watch will just hit like a 2 week streak on my wrist.
Recently it was the Casio DW290 - I got it and thought "I'll wear this over the weekend while I do the gardening and all the errands" then I kept it on for like a week and half.
Then the kids went back to school and I had to go to the office and then it was the BB58 for 2 weeks. I'll sometimes forget the whole reason I bought my Explorer 14270 was to be my everyday piece and sits in the box more often than it doesn't. It's all random and based off the vibe it seems!
This tracks - my wife and I went to dinner after I got the zero pass and I couldn't stop screaming at the line cooks at the restaurant, lol.
that should be a disclaimer on the website.
I couldn't agree more - it's actually one of the main reasons I chose the BB58 over other divers, including a few older submariner models. A tool watch just doesn't work on me, my wrists were made for rolling D20's over a D&D mat lol.
I love the professorial vibe of the 58, it looks better next to tweed than it does underwater.
I would agree with you, it’s become a bit of a cult (I’ve drank the koolaid and am wearing the Nikes lol), but you’re right; the value is subjective with a lot of variables.
For me personally - part of the value proposition is the seemingly clear examples of Longines updating designs with the watch enthusiast in mind; downsizing cases, material choices, chronometer certifications among other things.
But I also (speaking for myself here) can only see so many Aqua Terra’s or Seamaster 300s before I start looking for more inspired designs. All that to say; those are what I see as perceived value.
I don't know if I would call it hype; I don't think that the value proposition Longines offers is exaggerated.
What you're getting for under $4K is often better finished with comparable movement quality to watches even 2x the price tag.
A great example of that is the Spirit 37 vs. a Tudor BB36.
in addition, you're getting a tremendous catalog with a strong heritage; any time they drop a release in that segment, it's exciting, a really interesting look back at a decade long lost to bland technologies.
ultimately, everyone's individual preference, but if you haven't I would check some of these pieces out in the metal.
