I've had my father's champagne-dial gold Seiko in a drawer for 30 years. Last December she got a battery and a lizard band. Runs great now! I picked up a Casio Duro, a Fossil chrono, a couple of delicious cheapies from Jomashop, some refurbs from ebay. And just like that I've a new obsession!
I picked up a garbage watch on Temu for $7 on a whim. It was black with a gold case and roman numerals. I really enjoyed wearing it for the two weeks that it worked! Then I remembered my father's gold Seiko was sitting in a drawer... Then I picked up Casio Duro and a bond Nato strap. Off to the races!
Q: What was the first watch you ever owned?
Casio calculator watch in 1982. I bought it with paper-route money.
Q: What is one piece of advice you have for someone just getting into watches?
Look into Nato straps. Each watch can have several different looks and you can change them really quickly.
Q: What brands have been getting your attention lately?
As a low-budget collector I'm liking Casio, Mathey-Tissot, Swiss Military, Seiko, Citizen, Timex, Fossil, Pagani Design, Addiesdive.
Q: What is your grail watch and why?
Right now it's a Seiko Alpinist in green. It just looks really appealing to me. The green Seiko Presage sunburst and the lizard-dial one also appeal.
