Tell me I’m wrong: Mechanical movements are unbeatable at the entry level

I’m a strong believer in technical progress and mechanical watches seemed at one time like fragile, imprecise relics of a bygone age. This belief led...

Do we really need lume?

I’ve been looking at the pictured watch a lot recently and wondering if it’s not a great do it all design. It’s a nice size, has lovely zaratzu detail...

My thoughts on homages; and is this SM really a GADA?!

With SM’s SN021 in hand, there isn’t much I can say to fault it. I’ve not spent a great amount of time in the presence of a true ‘luxury watch’, but t...

That’s pretty good! 👍

Beautiful watch. I think I still prefer my Alpinist without the compass bezel, though I appreciate this is a defining characteristic for many.

How’s it running? These were supposed to be super accurate back in the day. Do they hold up?

There are baby Alpinists with sunburst dials (SPB211 and 212). The 211 is brown and the 212 green. Both are gilt with a gold sunburst sheen. The 212 has a gold bezel though, which is a bit marmite. I have the 211. I like it, but I wish the minute track was printed in the same bold light colour as the indexes rather than being gilt. The gilt almost fades into the background and is hard to see, making the dial appear too big.

The dream. Very jealous of your luck with the 6R 35. It’s an absolute roll of the dice, mine is back with the AD after losing 30s a day, but the 7S26 in my SNXS79 loses about a second a day. Leaving it dial down overnight gains back two seconds. 😙 👌

How’s its timekeeping?

No second hand on the 38mm. Strange choice
