Why do wall clocks suck?

My interest in watches threatened to spill over into the wall clock territory when I went trawling the internet for some good designs on Sunday night. Two hours of trawling and nothing materialised. Someone is missing a trick. It’s seems that the artistry and design invested in watches is non existent in the wall clock space. Anyone else think that the vintage pointer date pictured above would make a much better wall clock (absent lugs and scaled up of course) than the usual trash we are expected to buy?

Watch people enjoy the package and the time. Everyone else just wants the time.

I hear you. The clock wall space needs disrupting.

Could always look for old Marathon, or other manufacturers, military or travel style desk clocks.

Some of the watch vloggers on YouTube have wall clocks as part of their studio background, which are enlarged replicas of some well known wristwatches such as Rolex and Swatch ... so, this type of clock exists somewhere out there to purchase and are certainly MUCH cooler than the average department store wall clock!

I think people are always after beautiful things. The dials on some antique longcase clocks are glorious. Even before watches, there people who wanted time packaged well.

I have seen these. They are fun for the studio or garage wall, but I reckon there’s still a market for something a bit more refined, as the ones I’ve seen are giant Rolex Sub lookalikes complete with oversized bezel. Not sure I’d get that past the GF.

LOL!! I completely understand!

I've had the idea to make enlarged versions of iconic movements, not as clocks but kind of living wall sculptures.

An Omega 321 or Sea-Gull ST1901 would be amazing.
