Left hand crown for a right-handed?

I’m new to Watch Crunch and new to collecting, but I’m hooked. I’ve kicked off my collection with the versatile Explorer 114270 and am thinking a diver would be the most appropriate piece to add next. I’m loving the Pelagos but not sure on the blue. I love the finish on the LHD with the red ‘PELAGOS’ - is it weird to wear this if I’m right-handed?

Sure! If it works for you! Lots of lefties wearing right handed watches out there!

·

I wear watches with right and destro crowns on my left wrist. (I’m right handed) I’ve also worn watches on my right wrist before though, in certain circumstances.

“Left handed” watches are actually super comfortable on the left wrist as the crown is well out of the way.

TLDR:

No, it’s not 😅

·

9 o clock crowns are good👌

·

I don't have any with a crown at 9 o'clock but what I do have is a Pelagos and whether it's left-handed or normal, you can't fault it, it's a great watch.

Such a great watch. The pelagos 39 in black is amazing, I tried it on the other day

Thanks legends! As a noob with a noob question I appreciate the sincere responses! 🤝

And I was shocked at how light it was on the wrist!

light but imposing on the wrist it screams a tool watch with its touch of elegance

·

You started with a 114270? I’d say you’re done!

·

Also new to watch crunch, first comment actually. I think the crown at 9 fully leans into the ‘tool-ness’ of the watch as the crown is out of the way and prevents any digging into the hand. There are examples of this being a design feature for watches not necessarily meant to be for leftys

Cheers

·

It’s a Destro

·

The “debate” some have about this is kind-numbing.

Don’t overthink it

·

I am left handed I only wear watches with the crown on the right. To me it just makes more sense to have the crown going away from your wrist.

·

The crown is supposed to be facing outwards ... The intent is for RHD people to wear their watch on the left wrist and for LHD people to wear their watch on the right wrist. To me, and this may be my logical non-artistic brain talking, if you are RHD you have no business buying a LHD watch, unless you will wear it on the right hand, which is of poor taste for a RHD person. Please don't shoot!

·

As a lefty wearing ‘standard’ watches on my right wrist, this is superior. The crown should be up, not down. That’s what crowns do. If you wear your watch on the left arm, as y’all do, then the pelagos LHD is correct.

·

Not weird at all. Destro crowns rock!

·

It’s not weird at all, but don’t rush into the purchase! You’ll benefit from waiting and researching because you’ll learn more about what you like and how the nuances of each watch address that. For example, how the 42mm vs 39mm fit you and which you might prefer, or the fact that the 39mm Pelagos in black has a sun ray bezel and the 42mm is matte. Maybe you notice the the hash marks on the bezel of the Pelagos FXD and like those but notice they’re not available on the LHD, etc.

I basically went through the exact same love affair with a Pelagos early in my journey but ended up buying a different brand and watch entirely because I waited a while (on the advice of someone else).

On the other hand (wrist) if you’re into the buying and selling regularly process (which I am!) and don’t mind a bit of depreciation then you can ignore all this and just buy it. But the one thing I wish I’d done more at the start of my watch collecting was just wait a bit longer in between purchases.

For me, i wear mine high enough that isn’t an issue for me. I only have a left-handed watch as a novelty. For any major purchase, i would want the watch to go with my handedness

So, whats your next? :D

I use it all the time!

Whatever works for you, even though many watch nerds take this hobby very seriously part of the fun is the level of enjoyment and happiness watches give us. I say go for it, for me personally my only gripe with this watch is I wish #tudor put the date window on the same side as the crown. If they do it on right handed watches why change it for left handed watches?

Well, assuming you wear a watch on your left wrist as most do, I've found having a LHD watch that although the crown may not be on the "normal" right side of the watch, because the forearm gets thicker and there is actually an incline of flesh on the left side of the case, the crown being on the left side will actually push or dig into my forearm more than it would on the right side towards the wrist and back of hand cause the arm and wrist narrows more.. at least that's the way it is for me.. As such, I found it less comfortable and noticeably more in my way (of comfort) than wearing a watch that has the crown on the traditional right side. My 2 cents.

Note, perhaps the watch I had LHD made also had a big crown so that may make the discomfort more noticeable. Just something you may not be entitlely aware of when you first try on a LHD watch and may have more an effect overtime the longer you wear the watch.

Thank you for the insight!

Perhaps this, the Pelagos 39 if the left handed crown is a concern. But as a right hander wearing my watches in my left hand I would prefer my watches with crowns on the right side of my watches. Unless the crown is meant to be in the left for some specific reason. Good luck with your decision mate!

This also looks excellent, as I have a 36mm Explorer now and with a 7.25 inch wrist I think k I want to go all out for the 42 mm

Ahh, yes the 42mm would be best for your wrist size👍

Nah, wearing a left handed watch on your left hand isn't weird. I don't know this as a rule, which is probably because left handed people wear such watches on the right hand. Plus, now days there are watchmakers who will outright put a crown on the left side for kicks.
