I would buy something at a price range that you can afford to replace if something happened to it. There was a watch I really wanted at 20 that I couldn’t afford to buy at the time without using a significant portion of my savings (so I didn’t buy it), a few years later I released that the watch didn’t suit me after all and moved on. Your tastes may change so take the opportunity to experience more watches
Ask her what she wants to do with it. Maybe your kids will want it one day, I still wear my mother’s watch (she never really wore it) and I have a friend who was gifted her mothers’ Cartier watch for her wedding - she was so happy.

I love the watches. Everything else surrounding the brand and owners is unfortunate. I try to separate the two but sometimes the negativity does creep in. I have one explorer which I love and that’s it.
