OP 36MM vs EXPLORER1 39MM

Currently i have 4 watches in rotation

Panerai, Submariner, IWC 377717

and a recent addition of OP36. But i am trying to replace it with EXPLORER 1 39MM (214270)

And i wanna know your thoughts if i have to stay with the OP or is it better to replace it with explorer 1 39. But i have to add cash.

And The reason for change of mind is the size of OP36 which seems to be small for me. What are your thoughts?

The OP definitely is not small. By any measure

I get that oversized watches were a bit too much, but why are so many obsessed with the small watches. I understand if you have a 6.5" wrist, but on an average wrist they just look too small. But what do I know - Wear what you want.

I wear a 33mm on my large wrist and love it. Have the confidence to wear what you like because no one else in today's society notices your watch.

36mm seems to be a preferred size for average size ladies these days, my sis in law finally decided to purchase a watch that was good enough to pass along to a grand daughter, choosing a rose gold Patek dress watch from a trusted ad. The owner/ sales agent strongly suggested a 36mm over a more traditional 34mm case size offering his opinion that a conservative brand like PP intend their watches to survive trends. Interestingly he expects smaller watches to be the trend in men’s watches but also a slow return to bigger watches as well. The smaller gents watches will be current for a few more years before a predictable shift will take hold again. I recall the guys on FRATELLO TALKS podcast discussing the current trend to gents watches 39mm and smaller but they were all wearing Panerai watches and a Breitling. I think there was one speaker wearing his 36mm Datejust. My own wrist seems to be shrinking a bit in winter but I am comfortable with case size 38mm and much larger. I wear what I like as well as watches that I have paid for already.

Objectively, the OP 36 is fine. But, subjectively, it appears you’ve convinced yourself that it is too small and so you will never be truly satisfied with it. That little niggle will always be in the back of your mind. For that reason, the Explorer 39 is a better choice for you.

36 is elite

Since you’ve posted about this several times today, you clearly don’t want the OP. You don’t need our validation, get the watch you want.

Hahaha this seems to be the correct answer

36mm will always be the classic.

I say Explorer 36. 36mm seems fine on your wrist. Not too big not too small.

·

You can donate the 36 OP to me 😆

·

I don't know why, but I really don't like the smooth OP bezels. I much prefer the sportier, chiseled look of the Explorer bezels.

·

OP fits fine. As others have said you’ve already convinced yourself to move to the 39 and that’s great.

Curious why you wouldn’t source an OP39 or OP41 if it is about size or maybe it sounds a bit to me like you just want the Explorer, which is even better because it means you figured out the watch you really want. We’ve all been there😜get what you want and will wear.

·

Go with the 39.

You obviously feel more comfortable with it and it's hardly a huge wrist canon anyway.

·

Aqua Terra 😁

·

If it feels too small, then it is too small. You have to go with what you like and prefer. Nothing wrong with wanting a little wrist presence 👍

·

36mm is perfect on you.

·

If you were asking about getting a bigger OP then we would know it is all about size, but asking about a bigger Explorer means that you actually want a different style of watch.

Explorer 36 FTW
