Christopher Ward v Bremont

Someone is going to buy you a present. The only option they give you is the choice of brand, you do not get to select the model. You have to select either Christopher Ward or Bremont. Which do you ask for?

I’ve tried on many Bremonts but still haven’t found one I like

Obviously the more expensive brand.

Had a couple of CW's, lovely watches but I've not tried a Bremont. Didn't particularly like their older stuff, seemed a bit half-arsed microbrandish to me, the new stuff seems better designed, less "bitty" .

Actually really like the Terra-Nova field watches, but they buggered that up by putting a date on the size I would have bought.

Picked Bremont only because I have one

Assuming it's a new one, CW. If it's a Belcanto or one of the watches with the in-house 5-day movement, I'll risk to p*** off the gift-giver by flipping it. Otherwise I'll gladly wear anything from them!

Bremont so I could sell it on.

CW if I have to keep it.

Eh, I really have an aversion to both, despite trying to be favorable to them. I suppose Bremont because of the original founders and being British makes for a more interesting brand identity.

Christopher Ward is British, too.

Is it? For some reason I was thinking British founder but Swiss based. 🤷 Shows how compelling I find the brand. Great specs and aestheticallu pleasing watches, just not a brand for me.

I’ve been looking at both brands recently, I’ve ordered a CW but not got my hands on it yet. If you go off price alone bremont should be a better watch, however they both now offer in house movements so they are both stepping up there game in that regard. My only concern is that Bremont only off a 3 year warranty and CW off 5 years. Does this mean CW have a lot more faith in the quality of there watches even though they have a lower price point?

I think you’ll love your CW.

What did you go for?

A pair of British men started it. It’s based in Berkshire, UK. Designed and run here, but the watches are made in Switzerland; hence the two-flags design/logo.

I’m not saying yet as I’m going to do an unboxing when I get it. It’s at the collection point now so will be going to pick it up later today

Own both. Both great brands, but short of the Bel Canto (amazing watch) they are in two separate leagues. Bremont.

I’m loving the fact everyone is finding new ways to sh*t on new Bremont. The ink is barely dry on the advertising copy and the hate is unyielding. I’d call it the Ides of March if it wasn’t the middle of April. Line up, let’s all stick the knife in, no pushing, plenty of room in the 42,5mm models. Perhaps we could all be patient before calling the funeral parlour, at least let them die first before picking the coffin, or better still,

I couldn't agree more! Bremont doesn't speak to me personally although ive tried to like them.

However let's give them a chance especially with their revised range coming out!

I think the self-proclaimed arbiters of horology have spoken. It’s not just on here, there’s pages and pages of hate all through the ‘net although I’d be curious to see if any of those are the target market. It would be funny if they sell a truckload and do ok.

I’ll call the florist, see what colourway the wreaths are.

My criticisms are around the design direction. The design choices have already been released and are thus ripe for judgement. I applaud Bremont for simplifying its catalogue, focusing on Land, Sea and Air - this is a good move. But the design changes are cheap looking: more Hamilton than Omega; more Invictus than Tudor.
