New watch. Black Bay 54
A tough choice between the Pelagos 39, Pelagos FXD, Black Bay 58, and Black Bay 54. After much deliberation, I went for the Black Bay 54. Lovely to experience the ‘original’ Rolex/Tudor Submariner design but with modern technology.

I’ve been collecting for a few years. I try to stick to the mantra of buying watches I like and not following trends. I’ve definitely made some mistakes but I try to learn from them.

Honest, that’s a perfect size for you.
Any of the bigger models may have looked a bit too much for you.

Way to go! Congrats. I’ve been looking at that same list of watches for the last 6 months (+ the BB Burgandy and the Blue 58). I’ve been through some bigger cities for work this week so I’ve tried them all on a couple of times just in the last few days. How did you land on the 54? I find myself coming back to the BB58 in original black and I’m getting close to going for it. Fun stuff. Thanks for sharing & enjoy your new watch 👍🏻

For me, it was the style and size of the 54: I have a Smiths 36mm, Explorer 36mm, Yachtmaster 37mm, CW Dune 38mm, and a few other smaller watches, so I know I like this size. I also wanted to have the T-fit clasp without the 50mm length of the Pelegos clasp. In terms of styling, I might get a Sub no-date in the next couple of years and I felt that the Pelegos would ‘tread on its toes’ a bit too much. Whereas the 54 is the genesis of that watch, so would sit nicely along-side it.
Definitely a handsome piece.

I have a 58 which I love and use for swimming on an Erika (Connery) and it is just perfect, but I also got a 54 and it is somehow just a bit more special. If I was to recommend one over the other I would say the 54. Just has a certain X-Factor.
