VOSTOK, love it or hate it?

My kids gave me my Vostok watch for my birthday. Great gift. Any Cruchers have any experience with this Russian watch?

I have a few, and I like them for the robust, quirky watches that they are. But, as I mentioned in a different Vostok thread that someone started yesterday, I think that the prices have gotten to the point that your money is probably better spent elsewhere. They were great at $70, good at $100, but I just can’t see paying $150+ for a basic Amphibia.

I have an Amphibia. Fun little watch. Build quality is questionable, as well as the time keeping. Interesting though with its in house movement and proprietary water resistance method. A lot of fun to be had at relatively small prices with Vostoks. Shame about the whole russia thing though..

I have three 90s-era Komandirskies. Fun collectibles when Russia was eager for hard currency post-Soviet fall, but not the bargain they used to be.

I have had 3. Gave one to my brother and sold on the other two. With that said, I am always looking for other one lol.

·

I have two Amphibia. One of them arrived with a loose wheel on its automatic module which I had to fit it back in place myself.

Otherwise they are both fine and keeps very good time. Bottom line, they are a lot of fun and if you get a good one you will not be disappointed but be ready to get a not so good one if you fail at Vostok QA lottery.

Great fun and a different design language than the cookie cutter western dive watch. It can be expensive if you go via Amazon, though no more than others, but it's half the price or less if you go direct.

Indifferent

Like it. Don’t love it. Time keeping on mines is…ok. After I adjusted it. I don’t wear it as much as my other watches.

Love how quirky it looks, wear it quite often too. My only problem with it was its nonexistent quick change on the date wheel.

I have over 35 Vostoks, started into Vostok just over a year ago. There are like potato chips, can’t have just one. I enjoy the involvement they offer, from winding the Komandirskies to guessing which one in the morning will A-still be running to B-be within 2 minutes of the actual time. Amphibias are much more reliable and well constructed with automatic movement. Between the 2 think of it as a cheap American car in Base model (Komandirskie) vs cheap American car in SE model (Amphibia). But enjoy and the irony of putting a Russian watch on a NATO strap, yes Russia I own you!

I was bought vintage Luch on 2209 movement, and nearly few weeks ago I bought vintage Komandirskie 1965 army field watch reissue. I like them.

I can't think of a group of people that hate it, no reason too either.
