I'm eagerly awaiting my newest purchase; a Baume & Mercier Clifton Baumatic!! On paper, this watch seems to tick many boxes for watch enthusiasts:...

I'm in agreement on the dial for the Constellation. It appears to have been incorrectly refinished at some point.

Based on the size, this was definitely sold as a ladies watch. Men's tank shaped watches were much smaller back then, but no where near as small as that. I believe that particular case shape was referred to as a "lozenge."

It will probably be next to impossible to determine who made the watch as it has no branding on it. I guess you would call this a "jobber" watch. Jewelry stores and department stores would order generic Swiss watches from a catalog to stock their shops. The watches were assembled from parts provided from several different specialist companies (dial makers, case makers, movement makers etc.).

The movement does look to be good quality (3adjs. and some nice finishing). You could look under the balance wheel to see if there is a stamp indicating the movement maker. I'm guessing the dial is radium (or just white paint, it's hard to tell lol), and by the look of the design it's from the 1930s.

1. Everything made by Zenith in the last 25 years that ISN'T an El Primero chronograph. Especially their "Elite" in-house movement (cals. 650, 670, 680 etc.) 3 hand dress watches.

2. Anything made by Girard Perregaux in the last 25 years with their in-house cal. 3xxx movements or the newer 033xx movements including their 1945 watches, older Richeville models, older Classique/Classique Elegance and newer 1966 pieces.

3. Just about anything made by Jaeger LeCoultre since the 1980s that ISN'T a Reverso. Their ultra-thin Master Control Watches and Polaris sports watches.

With any of those watches, you are getting quality approaching that of the holy trinity (without the hand-finishing of AP, VC and Patek) for less then the price of a pre-owned Rolex.

Stunning watch!! Mine was exactly the same with a black outer dial on a black croc strap.

Hamilton should really think about re-releasing these case designs with automatic movements like Bulova recently did when they relaunched the Accutron brand.

I was in a similar situation, also with a rare Hamilton.

I used to own a Hamilton electric Meteor. One of the more unusual assymmetrical designs by the great Richard Arbib. Hamilton made only 3000 (1500 with black dials and 1500 with white dials) from 1960 to 1962.

It always kept horrible time hahaha, as most of the Hamilton electric watches did. Instead of paying several hundred dollars to get it serviced, I ended up selling it since I rarely ever wore it.
