🚨 New Watch Alert(s) 🚨
Over the past weekend, I celebrated my birthday surrounded by loved ones — a departure from my usual unassuming approach. Historically, I regarded my birthday as just another day among many, with minimal priority given to festivities. A heartfelt card would more than suffice.
A shift occurred a few years ago as my interest in watches grew, highlighting the significance of time in our lives. Recently, I read a post by @unholiestjedi, underscoring how we measure time instead of miles when traveling as an example. Time is our most valuable asset.
Upon turning 50, my wife surprised me by insisting I take time off to mark the occasion. Despite over three decades of marriage, this was unprecedented as I never celebrated my birthday. She rented a cabin in Tennessee, a place we'd previously enjoyed for its mountain solitude.
Upon arrival, I was caught off guard by a surprise gathering of family and friends—an unexpected outpouring of affection that deeply moved me. The fact that they allocated "time" to celebrate with me resonated profoundly.
Since that pivotal moment, I've approached my birthday differently. Though I remain more inclined to give than receive, this year's weekend caught me off guard with gifts from my wife and son. I won't get into specs, as you all know them.
Among the gifts, my wife presented me with a Seiko 5 featuring Arabic numerals—a watch I had contemplated purchasing. Additionally, she gifted me "A Man & His Watch" and a tee shirt reflecting my obsession with this healthy hobby😉. Despite being a full-time college student and juggling two part-time jobs, my son invested what little he had on a stunning Orient Bambino with a Sunray dial for his old man.
The generosity and support, rather than the gifts, left me utterly astounded and deeply appreciative. Their collective investment in my passion means the world to me.

Happy birthday! Sounds like your family are kind and supportive. My own family understand that the old man buys what he likes so I get slightly goofy presents for my birthday. Younger daughter and her hubby gifted me a top of the line Dyson portable Dyson vacuum cleaner while my older daughter gave me 30 sleeves of Nespresso coffee pods. My wife and I agreed that our time together is the best gift to each other so we more or less stopped with physical gifts after the first 30 years together. I would not object to a trip to Paris to visit FP Journe’s shop one day in the future. Lol.
