$300 and below, I find Orient's offering much better value with their Kamasu and Bambino lines. You could make a satisfying 2-watch collection with those for less than $500.
$500 and above, Seiko to me is the best brand, with great designs and finishing across all types such as the MM200 divers line or the King Seiko dress watches.
I like the 1050 and 1060 lines of Citizen but those are the only watch of the brand that ever caught my eye.

Actually Citizen. I love my Citizen watches. But I'm looking forward to order my first Seiko.
