Tudor Ranger | Luxury Brick Shithouse

I've shared it before and I'll share it again.

The Ranger is a watch I very much enjoy.

It tickles the watch nerd in me and I don't ever feel the need to worry about it. No special polishes here; only brushed finishing making it a great choice to get into shit (both literal and figurative).

I've made jokes about the "every scratch tells a story" mindset, but in all seriousness, this is watch that handles scratches very well, which is something of value to me.

Hot Take: I like the Ranger more than I like the Explorer. No, I don't think it's better. I just like it more. I get that may not make sense. All I can say is the Ranger resonates more with the lifestyle that I have and I appreciate that.

Love it ! What a tool watch should be.

Not got one yet, but will do 👍👍

·

Lifestyle; HUGE consideration that most of us don't consider when buying our precious shiny's.

Love that you did and do. The Ranger is a great tool watch.

·

I love the Ranger, simplicity and heritage..

I get what you're saying. 👌 Nice photo too 🐬🐬🏴‍☠️

The ranger is the first tudor I've ever tried on and while I really don't wear watches under 40mm, this watch with its large face and no bezels looked great on my wrist I thought. It wore super comfortable as well. I would really like to have one some day.

👍

·

Love this watch. Hoping it’ll be my first big watch purchase.

·

Love it, one of my grails 🍻

·

Couldn't agree more, my collection revolves around being able to be worn at work, working on my car and anything I throw at it.

Great to see a fellow submariner from across the pond as well! 🐬

·

This piece gets a lot more wrist time than my Explorer 224270. It catches my attention every time, all the time.

You gentlemen might enjoy this. I made a video tour of our training base for all baby US submariners:

When tudor decides to use applied indexes I will buy one again,

I couldn't get over the flat dial personally

·

Fantastic watch! And nice to know there are a few fellow submariners on this app. Boomer type here

The Ranger is a Great watch and is a perfect GADA I won't seem out of place anywhere, glad you are wearing it properly and not babying it 👍

I think Tudor on the whole have moved into well made high end tool watch catogary vacated by Rolex.

·

Ranger is a fantastic watch. The only reason it isn’t a serious consideration for me is the size. I find 39mm to be a little large for a fixed bezel sports/tool watch for my wrist. I tend to pick watches closer to 36mm or so.

I served on board the Wyoming and Alaska as a NAVET🍻

One of my grails, hoping to get 1 for my 45th in just over 18 months.

Let's make it happen boss🍻

What you've said applies to a lot of what Tudor does and why I think many of us know exactly what you mean when you say 'I don't think it's better, I just like it more'.

A lot of us are starting to feel that way about Tudor in general when compared to Rolex.

I actually prefer the Explorer to the Ranger, (the 39mm 214270 particularly) but that's it for Rolex. I prefer the BB Pro to the Explorer II and the BB54 & BB58 over the Submariner - for a lot of the same reasons you say, plus I also prefer Tudors design language.

The Tudor of now feels closer to the Rolex of old to me - serious, no bullshit, built for purpose tool-watches (mostly).

Completely agree. I don't hate the trajectory Rolex has taken, but Tudor is more in line with my values.

Love my Ranger Heritage.

·

I totally agree with you on preferring the Ranger to the Modern Explorer - which is far too shiny now and not very legible, had the call on both but turned both down, fell for a Vertex for the one and done tool gada.

·

My Ranger gets more wrist time than almost everything else in my collection… it’s comfortable, legible and pretty much works on any strap.

I want it bit I am also hesitant at the same time. I love everything about the Ranger. But I have also had mostly poor experiences with mechanicals in the past. I have never had anything swiss, and feel guilty thinking of spending that much money when I could put it to my son.

I really like the ranger I didn’t think I would but when I tried on I was very impressed it’s by far my favourite Tudor. While I like to see a vintage watch that looks well worn I hate the first scratches on new watches and talk of each one being a memory doesn’t do it for me. I put the first scratch on my Seamaster fixing the flush on the toilet 🙄 anyway fixed my scratch phobia by buying a tegamented sinn. Not sure what to do with my ranger itch though maybe one for the future ? Wear it well 👍

Scratches are terrible. All I can say is scratches on brushed finishes are easier to stomach for me because in a way they can accentuate a certain style. Scratches on polished surfaces just looks like trash to me.

One of the good things about Tudor is they often tank in the second-hand market (private sales), so I'd say just keep your eyes/ears open online and eventually someone will list theirs at a steal.

The Ranger has been growing on me. I’ve seen it a few times in person now and it looks better and better each time. The numbers are quirky and that’s what I’ve been wrapping my head around. They seem less than perfect but are in line with vintage versions. Most things are done with CAD or similar today, but I think these numbers convey something more done by hand. That’s a good thing.
