Timex S2 by Giorgio Galli | Possibly Insane Pricing

$1000 for a Timex is insane?

Maybe.

Christopher Ward watches share similar pricetags and I think for the most part their fans accept this as reasonable considering what all comes with that package

The S2 feels on par with a Christopher Ward, so to that end I don't think the asking price is that far-fetched.

Overpriced for sure, but IMO every single watch is.

Long story short, I think the quality is good and I enjoy this watch.

Sometimes you need to look past the name on the dial and focus on details like craftsmanship. materials, movement, and design to get a full sense of the overall value. Not my style, but seems on par with other watches with similar specs.

And on the Forstner Komfit too! Pure class!

What is it about Timex and the Komfit? 😂

Price is relative. We all enjoy our hobby within our own means. It's a classy watch, and if you can afford it, wear it with pride and enjoy 😀

·

Seems smart but I think the goal should be to displace micros and entry level Swiss. Christopher Ward may be a step too far right now.

·

I would personally go for the cheaper version. I don't think the watches price is crazy but I do think the difference in price is. £425 for the 38mm s1 and an extra £325 to upgrade the movement (sw200 are £100-150)

I think it's the Komfit's compatibility with so many different lug widths and it's ability to accentuate a watch's vintage qualities that make it work so well with these Timex models.

True. I try to avoid a watch's price when talking about its merits because it is such a relative thing, but I felt it was worth mentioning because it is such a far departure from what we're used to seeing from Timex.

Completely agree... A $1k price tag on a Timex is the proverbial elephant in the room... You just can't ignore it

i'll be ready to slide into your DM's when I make an exceptionally irresponsible watch purchase and need to seel ASAP 😎

Nice finishing on the movement for a timex

·

I don’t see the price as an issue at all. When put into the context that the price is on par with a lot of microbrands with the addition of coming from a company that, in all likelihood, will still be there down the road if service is needed.

·

Its a great looking watch. Grand Timex 🤔

·

If I could have dial from the first Giorgio had with the second addition I would have ordered one.

·

If you think it is worth it, enough said. Enjoy the watch. It looks really good to me!

·

Nope - price is correct. Swiss made, Sellita movement and slightly better design and finishing than standard Timex, so it was always going to end up in the $750 - $1250 price range.

·

for other timex probably. but for this one i think its fair. look at the decoration on the movement 😍

·

Looks great, almost like a modern Polerouter or Tudor "Tuxedo dial". There's also a sense of "if you know you know" a bit like Grand Seiko 10+ years ago. Enjoy!

Very cool

It’s quite interesting. I remember when Fossil launched an £800 watch and it did not sell at all. Fossil however is in the very low tier fashion watch brand category. I guess Mr Kartsotis realised this and then went on to found Shinola. The average Shinola watch costs around £450 as quartz and all their other products are quite expensive, so the mechanical version for £1050 was easier to sell.

The £800 Fossil had a very standard design, whereas the Timex S2 is completely different. While the S1 did nothing for me and I found the case design did not go with the 50s dial, I find the S2 really superb. It’s the watch to wear when you have nothing to prove.

I think I have to add this to my collection 🤩
