Help my Dad decide!

My dad has been practically frothing at the mouth for a new watch - a Traveller’s (True) GMT. He doesn’t believe in getting a microbrand/independent, and a Rolex Explorer II is not advisable at the moment.

He’s also a big James Bond guy, so he loves Longines via Swatch association, but the Tudors have also caught his eye ever since I got one for myself.

These are the four he is thinking about. What should he choose? Watches are as seen on photo.

From the description it sounds like the Zulu time should be a good choice. The 42 is probably not the best option if he has smaller wrists though.

·

The Zulu Time 39 mm would be my go-to from "mainstream brands" after the Farer Lander and CW Firefly.

At nearly 15 mm thick, the Tudor GMT watches are a no-go for me.

He’s your father. Get him all 4!

Zulutime is by far the stand out of the group.

If only I wasn’t broke…

·

Woah... that is a hard choice to make! They are all great! But I went for the Spirit Zulu Time.

·

Rather than the BB Pro, I would opt for the newer GMT offerings from Tudor. For instance Ref. M79830RB-0010. They have the same movement.

·

I say the the S&G but I’m going purely on just looks alone And what I would like so I probably am no help at all for you 😅

·

Zulu time for me

·

I would not rule out micobrands. Jack Mason, MIDO Marloe and others are offering true GMTs at great quality for 1/2 the budget of the others. So he could get one of these and something else.

·

If you're considering the S&G model for the Tudor BB GMT, the gold capped version of the Longines should be the one compared against it.

On the point about Longines being related to a Bond-affiliated brand... Tudor is just as close/closer. Ian Fleming's personal watch was a Rolex Exploder 1016. Fleming always wrote about Bond wearing Rolexes in the original books and Sean Connery wore a Rolex as Bond in the first films.

And since Tudor is the sister brand to Rolex, the Tudor relationship is really stronger than the Longines relationship.

I like the gold capped version of both the Zulu Time and the Black Bay GMT S&G. But I vote Zulu Time with the Gold accents.

·

I love the Tudor Pro but i Think the Longines Zulu is top

·

Out of the bunch, the Longines Spirit Zulu edges out on top. The BB Pro would be the runner up. Something about the face of that Zulu, though… 🤩

·

Zulu Time is my fav of the ones here but if I were buying a gift I think the Hydroconquest might be the way. It's a more versatile look (very much sub inspired) and the micro adjust on the bracelet is awesome.

That said, the opaline BB GMT is my personal fav above all 4 listed here.

James Bond fan? Why no Omega?

As for Rolex, if you dad really wants one, there's no replacement I think.

·

If he’s a James Bond guy I suggest getting either the seamaster 300m gmt or the Aqua terra GMT from omega there basically in the same price range if not a bit cheaper

Zulu time, The Black Bay Pro is - for me, more rugged than the Explorer II and stunning in the metal though. If he’s Jeans and T Shirt the Pro, if he’s dapper the Zulu

·

Likely the S&G or Pro since Tudor has caught his eye. Can purchase secondhand for a great deal.
