Impulse buy surprises ahead. AKA, this cheap watch is bigger than I though.

So on a whim I seen the Pagani Designs Explorer II on sale for around $75. I figured that was worth the risk to get a GMT that I liked the colors of. My Hamilton Khaki Aviation Day/Date is my largest watch and this thing is almost as big as it. I haven't gotten the calipers out but using the machinist ruler they are just about the same. (I just looked up the specs and its 42mm vs the Hamy's 43mm) Now, quality is no contest. The Pagani feels cheap. The bracelet is light weight and sharp. The cyclops is lined up but the magnification is pretty harsh.

Luckily I have a 7 inch wrist and don't mind larger watches. This wears find on me. It may feel a tad big cause it does non turn down at the lugs like the Coop does, however it is not uncomfortable.

This is my third Chinese watch. And while I'm not completely sold on them, I think they have their place. I'm very pleased with the Sugess Moonmaster

Image

It has been accurate to about -10s a day. From arms length is a stunning watch and it certainly impresses the non-enthusiast and enthusiast alike. Besides, it is a stop gap till I can afford the Longines Moon phase that I really want some day. :D

The Fleiger is alitte different story. I had heard so much about praise about San Martin and their bracelets. So, I got the Fleiger type B with a stainless Bracelet. Honestly, I immediately put it on leather and called it good. I wear it periodically and like it well enough but I can see myself going to a Laco or Stowa in the future. Here is a shot of it on rubber for when I let me step-son use it over vacation.

But, back to the Pagani and the elephant in the room. Should I have bought it? I don't see why not. Will I wear it in public and risk the onslaught of people pointing at me a calling me a poser? Yup, most likely I will. I don't care much what others think. I don't think this will be a daily wear but I don't see why it won't be an occasional piece. But, now I know, I want a good GMT and in person I really like this white/orange color combination, which is the whole point of me buying it in the first place.

One more picture for posterity's sake. (and to be honest, I opened this up about an hour ago)

Nice write up. Definitely wear it wherever and whenever you like, I do with the PD Daytona.

... and I really like the Sugess, the onion crown is a nice touch.

Thanks for taking the time. It’s helpful to get some info on these. I got the other dial version of your Sugess Moonmaster this past week and love it.

Regarding the Pagani designs, impulse too with the recent sale… I picked up a the daytona and speedy for my kids, hoping to tempt them into actually wearing a time piece on their wrist rather than just relying on their phone. I have mixed feelings on the Pagani Design. They look nice, but like what you mentioned, the bracelet could use some softening on the edges. Of course the movements are nothing like the what they are paying homage to. If my kids put it in a drawer forever, it won’t be much of a loss.

I would have guess your PD has an NH34 which is the same as my Seiko GMT (4R34). Good movement.

By the way, cool watch stand 👍

Was watching some channel of some one in SE asia checking out the fakes and the "expensive" ones were the fake RMs

If i were there i would so buy one and wear it for a laugh....or lose my arm in the wrong place

does that PD have a jumping hour hand?

No it does not. So you have to set the hour hand in the right spot for the part of the hour that it is.

About 6 months ago I tried on - and rather fell in love with! - a Rolex 16570 Explorer II. It’ll be years before one them joins my collection so I regularly consider the Pagani as an ‘itch-scratcher’. Then I realise: it won’t help. I’ll always know it’s a poor copy sat on my wrist; and I’ll have wasted £150.

That’s what I realized when I bought my first and last Pagani. Mine was a GMT-Master II lookalike. It was just there to remind me I couldn’t afford a real one.

That sugess with the sun and moon complication looks beautiful!

That is exactly how I feel about this. I doubt I will keep it long but for the price I think it’s a decent enough watch on its own. Just not for me.

It really is. I’m very pleased with the Sugess for sure.

How do you like that Hamilton? I'm thinking about getting one.

I love it. I think it is my most work watch next to the Seiko Speedtimer. still the Hamilton is my favorite.

·

I think as a way to learn if you really like the R explorer II it's a great option as there is no way in real life to see or wear one without ordering and waiting years.

·

Is that a genuine Pagani Design watch? Because there's a new company now called Pagani Design Design. They make homages of Pagani Design watches.

·

I enjoy the white Rolex explorer homage fantastic watch just measured the time on it within 3 seconds. fantastic.

$75 dollars? l paid over $150 for mine a year ago?

Agreed.

I would rather spend $8,000 on a used car. And that's not cheap.

I was going back through this and realized you said 'sun and moon complication' it is actually a true moon phase. There are two moons and 59 positions to accommodate the 29 1/2 night moon phases
