Hello, quick intro, bio and offer.

Hi, my name is Nate. I am huge fan of watches.

Image

I've been here since January but thought it would be fun to tell you all alittle about me.

It really started when I got my first pocket watch. My grandfather had passed away and the family had decided they were going to auction off EVERYTHING, like most families, not everyone adhered to that and some of the family got stuff without going through the auction. I was 22 yrs old and had $600 in my pocket and only wanted one thing, the pocket watch my grandpa had in his pocket when he and my grandmother danced for the last time. He had a few pocket watches and they offered them up at choice (meaning who ever won the first bid could pick out which one they wanted) I didn't care, I just kept bidding, showing my determination. Someone was bidding against me and ran the bid up until they realized I was the grandson. He bowed out and apologized later. To me, it was no harm no foul. I got what I came for.

Years later I was working at a Golf Course and had been promoted to GM. Now up until that point, I only used my phone if I needed to know the time but I had always been fascinated by the solar Eco-Drive watches, especially the Blue Angels edition. I didn't make much money at the time and had a young son so instead of opting to celebrate with the watch I had been lusting over for years, I went with a less expensive Nighthawk.

I still have this watch and wear it on occasion. This watch and I have seen some tough times together and I have really put it through its paces. The crystal and bracelet have both been replaced and it still looks good. I love it.

Now, that was 15 years ago. That watch was my daily for the vast majority of that time. I went through spurts where I would wear a fitness tracker or an Apple Watch but I always came back to this.

Since then I have had another kid, been divorced, been remarried and became a Step-grandpa. I had a birthday in January where my wife got me my first Automatic watch. A Tissot Everytime. I'm afraid that completely did me in. Since then, I have been scouring the internet for good deals on new and used watches within certain categories. I feel like I have a good mix of sports, everyday, work, and dress watches.

I then started thinking about how i was going to display these wonder, beautiful works of engineering marvels. Now, I spent 6 years in engineering and after I left that industry I got into 3d Printing.

I got really into 3D printing. lol. About a year ago I took my 3D printing and engineering hobby and combined it with Fountain Pens to create these displays. Really it was all just a project for my wife. I thought I would surprise her with a stand for her pens. 🙂 She was pretty happy with them.

I modified the design, played with some color changes mid print, and split the parts up for durability and through a lengthy trial and error period (after all, I do have a day job) I came up with a design that I was happy with for displaying my watches.

A couple of months ago, I posted on reddit about this stands that I made and offered to make them for people. Some of the stands have shown up on WC which I thought was really cool. Here are some the the people I made them for have sent me.

And here are some of the others that I have made.

There are four parts, the right and left stand, the plate with wordage, and the base. In total these take about 12-15 hours of print time. Printing could go a lot quicker but you give up quality. I have 4 printers so that helps quite a bit. It takes about 10-15 minutes of cleanup and assembly. I created a cavity in the base for weights and let the glue cure for 24 hours.

Now, all that being said, I really appreciate this community. It is awesome. I want to offer these here if the community is cool with it.

I don't have a storefront, website, or any of the sort. Its a hobby for me and I want to share. If you are interested, they are $25 shipped to the CONUS. Outside of that, we can talk.

Let me know what you guys think. If I'm wrong and shouldn't sell these are here, just let me know and I'll delete this and continue to be a happy WC patron. :)

Welcome to watchcrunch sir, youre doing a great job with the 3d printer 😍😍

Amazing story and work. Not sure what the policy for selling stuff here is but you could always open up an Etsy shop. Honestly, seems like you can charge more than $25 for this quality.

So, I emailed the powers that be and they said that rules are pretty loose on selling stuff. More or less, if the community allows it then its good to go.

As for the etsy store, I have a full time job and make decent money. I'm not looking to make money on these or I would definitely ask for more. Just trying to make it reasonable and obtainable. Getting to share these are very fulfilling to me.

Great story and great work! Welcome to the community!

I think it's brilliant that you are doing something creative for the community. We should welcome all collectors who have a side-gig that makes the hobby more fun.

I'd vote for an artisan section of the community so it's easier to find all the cool things being done related to the hobby.

I would love to add some of these, but my wife would definitely not approve. I'm lucky I get to keep guitars all over the house in many different rooms. If I started doing that with watches...

·

Very creative and cool idea. I’m glad you gave us an opportunity to get to know you a little better. Welcome!

First off, welcome to WC and thanks for sharing your story. Unfortunately I’m a throw them in a box/drawer/on the desk watch display person, but your stands look really good.

·

Hey, Nate and welcome! Great story and cool stands.

·

Welcome to the WC community. Those are some great 3D designs! I can't help but comment on your Nighthawk. I had a future pilot to be ask me what watch he should get and he didn't want to break the bank. I could not think of a better watch then the Nighthawk!

·

Welcome to the Crunch, Sir! Awesome creativity and fabulous stands! 🥳🤩🍻

·

Very cool. As a 3D printing hobbyist myself, I can say these look really nice!

·

Welcome to WC, bud! Cool stands. 👍

·

These watch stands are awesome. KC is a wonderful place which I have the good fortune to visit quite a few times. Love all the fountains around and great BBQs.

Would love to get a couple of WC stands from you. Do you accept PayPal, that will make things a lot easier for some folks including myself ?

·

Thanks for sharing your story and beautiful watch stands! 🤙🎯

·

If there is one thing this community loves after watches it's watch accessories. I could see a lot of enthusiasts, myself included, buying your stands. The problem for some of us would be figuring out which lucky watches make out of the box and on to the stand. I was also admiring the coasters which look way better than the ones I ordered through ShutterFly. Cool of you to share!

Great stands! Welcome to the crunch!

Because my wife bud a lot of stuff on the Facebook, I have PayPal, Venmo, and cashapp.

These look awesome! If you ever start making some more fun (like the robot stands) and are willing to ship to Europe, I'll definitely get one.

I also love your other 3d printed stuff. Especially the black dragon worm that I could totally see in a game of dungeon and dragons. 😁

I couldn’t message on WC as I’m a new member. Can you message you instead to arrange the payment and transaction? Thanks

·

Good stuff man and nice work. Looks like you’ve got some nice watches too. Cheers to you.
